Nubra Valley from Leh
Hi all,
we will be staying in Ladakh in August and are willing to visit Nubra Valley by car in 3-4 days with a local agency. Could anyone give us an idea of price range? We read that it is possible to spend the nights either in guesthouses or in tent camps. Which solution would you suggest? Are there any problems with inner line permits? Thank you very much in advance |

3 days to Nubra valley including Sumur, Hunder, Deskit and Panamik will cost you about Rs. 7500 /- for car. Get the inner line permit before leavening for Nubra or get in contact with travel agency there for car and they will arrange the same for you at a price of Rs. 100 /- per person.

not worth spending 3 nights at nubra valley
Frankly I feel that it is not worth spending 3 nights at nubra valley. If u start early in the morning from leh (7/8 am) u will reach diskit or hunder by noon. Next day u can travel up to the last point u r allowed to and can return to Leh by dinner time on day 2. This trip will cost u Rs 4500 on a car along with a guide. Moreover I would like to caution u that the scenic beauty towards the sasoma/panamik road is not exceptional and u may feel it boring at one stage. I was there on this June end on a bike trip and that’s the way I rate this place.
Best accommodation in nubra valley is the Olthang Guest house at Diskit they ask for Rs 1200/day. Inner line permit is a very easy thing to obtain. ur agent will do it for u. I have some experience with dragon tours and travel and so far they were good and reliable! If u need any more information u r welcome. |

Well I would have to disagree with the above two comments! Scenic beauty in Nubra Valley was the best I have seen in my Ladakh ride last year, those who have doubts check out the following photos.

Diskit is just a dirty old town, nothing spectacular. However Hunder is quite scenic and when we were there we saw a maintained camping ground there. |

Serena ladakh trip last year changed my outlook not only towards touring, but also towards life! Before the Ladakh ride, like most guys my age I was into riding hard and fast to reach the next destination, in fact a bit fast to experience the ride. Instead I was interested in how many kms I could clock in a day, trying to leave cars, trucks, buses and people behind.
But in those 16days I learned a lot, not about ladakh or motorcycle touring or any thing else, but about myself. I learned a valuable lesson, it’s not about ticking off destination from an itinerary, it is about experiencing and enjoying the places one visits. I apologies if I sound rude, but what most people fail to realize is that Ladakh ride is not a rally that they are participating in! It is some thing to be enjoyed and cherished, not only for the length of time one is there but for the rest of their life. Like some one once said, by riding fast you are only ensuring that you ride alone! Serena and Opus best of luck for your upcoming trips, as for me my time will come, soon . |
