Nubra and Diskit, Anyone been or going? I am...

Hi all

Just fishing for some banter about ladakh. I am going to diskit for july and august, before some HP and maybe Srinigar.

Has anyone got anything to reccomend about this area in the nubra? Also any experience getting the inner line permits? I hope its not tricky. If anyones in the area or got any advice for places to visit, we'd love to know

cheers

Don’t worry about the permits, they are easy to get. If you don’t want to do it yourself, especially since foreigners need to be in a group of four or more to apply for a permit. You can get it done through a travel agent. Not sure if you can get an inner line permit for more then three weeks. Not sure about it though, but I do remember seeing something like that on the permit form.

As for places to visit and stay, I love Nubra valley and feel it’s underrated by most travelers. The diversity of landscape and weather is unparallel. I remember while returning from Panamik there was light rain taking place and in a distance I could see no clouds and a sand storm! This was an experience that I would never forget; on top of that Nubra got the best roads in Ladakh.

I did stay in a guest house in diskit, but later found Hunder to be more beautiful and a better place to stay. Will be going back there in September and most probably I will be staying in Hunder.

A few photographs of nubra valley

I did a walkout last time which was spectacular

but one of the nicest days was just walking between Hundar and Diskit. Nothing dramatic, just a trail meandering between a stream and the sand dunes, meeting herders and others.

I was given a one week permit, this seemed to be the standard for angrezis.
