Motoring From Sangla Valley to Leh???

Hi Folks,

Am planning a trip in June from to Leh. Wanted to know if it is possible to do Sangla valley to Leh without having to go back to join the Manali-Leh highway. Is it possible to drive through Kunzum Pass in mid June? Won't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Will be in a Wagon-R.

Unless the new road above the landslide near Yangthang village, north of Khab on route 22 has been completed, you won't be able to go any further with your own transport.

This is what happens at the landslide

At the moment people have to leave their bus or taxi, walk down to the bottom of the landslide, then back up to the road on the other side and pick up onward transport. I suggest you contact the relevant authority to find out when the road will be completed.

If it will be completed by June, this still leaves the problem of crossing Kunzum La. I think it's difficult to predict when the road will open - depends on the amount of winter snowfall and rate of snow melt.
