More to do in less time

Me and my friend (both from Bangalore) are planning a trip to Leh and we have very less time (we'll be in Manali on 31st August and have to be in Delhi by 7th night). We're planning to do one way by bike and return by bus. I have many questions regarding the same.

1. How much deposit do we have to pay in Manali for the bike?
2. The bikes that we rent out in Manali, can we rent it just for one way? If so, how will the refund the deposit?
3. Lonely planet talks about the following bike vendors in Manali:
*The Enfield Club, Tel 2510954, by the turn off to Vashisht does Enfield repairs and sells second hand machines.
*Anu Auto Works, Tel 9816163378, on Vashisht Road (This sucks)
*Himalayan Inder Motors, Tel 9816113973, Gompa Road
*Life Adventure Tours, Tel 253825, Diamond Hotel, Model town Road. (this sounds more like an organised tour service)
Which one is the most reliable one? And any tips while choosing the bike? Is a recent pulsar more reliable than an older bullet?
4. Is it possible to do either Pangongtso lake or Kardungla pass in just 1 day?
5. Are there buses everyday from Leh to Manali? If so what time does it leave Leh and when does it reach Manali?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

cheers,
Sachin

Khardung La is easily done in one day , it can also be done with a by bus up and a waiting mountain bike for the ride down to Leh , package deals.

Pangong Tso and back also possible : by car it means spending little time by the lake , I guess by bike you´ll get there and back marginally faster.

Yes.
Minibuses and shared taxis everyday in high season , both up to Rs. 1500.
HRTC (Rs 570 ) or HPTDC ( Rs 1600 , including accommodation & breakfast ) buses , both with a overnight stop in Keylong. HPTDC buses stop running somewhen in September.

Depart in the wee hours of the morning/night , arrive 18-25 hours later. Or the next day : this year the road was clipped by a rock slide and out for the better part of the day just after we left Keylong , same thing happened last week at Marhi. See updates on my blog ( http://korta.nu/manleh ) but don´t expect it to catch all the events .
