Manali - Leh

Hi,

As I read through various threads in this site. I am concerned and confused about the Manali-Leh trip

My initial plan is
Sep 25th - Arrive @ Kullu airport and start journey towards LEH
Night halt @ Keylong or Jispa (First Confusion)
Sep 26th - Start from Keylong/Jispa and reach LEH

Is 2 days good enough or do we need 3 days wrt AMS.

If 2 days.. Where should I break my journey, Keylong or Jispa??
If Keylong, The next day we might be travelling long distances to reach LEH?? or JISPA is preferred.

Please let me know which is good wrt AMS and distances.

Cheers.......

My ideal plan would be
Day 1 : Arrive Kullu, Stay night @ Kullu / Manali.
Day 2: Drive to Keylong / Jispa (both are close by - not much difference in disance, but place wise Keylong is a small town with lots of hotles while Jispa has just one hotel to stay)
Day 3: Drive to Sarchu
Day 4: Drive to Leh.

In the above plan Sarchu is the place where there are chances of AMS.

Alternate plan:
Day 1 : Arrive Kullu. Stay overnight Kullu / Manali.
Day 2: Drive Keylong / Jispa.
Day 3: Drive to Leh

It's not advisable (& you will not enjoy) to start your journey the same day you land in Kullu.

Ronak.

Both are near , almost identical altitude. It comes down to a choice of all the options of a small town , or the the more idyllic setting of Jispa - which has three options : The Ibex Hotel , the new Padma Lodge and a small tent camp.

Go for Leh the next day , and save Sarchu for the return trip - you´ll get more out of it that way.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

I have modified my plan to get better acclimatization wrt AMS,

Day 1 Sep 25 - Arrive @ Kullu and leave for Keylong, night halt @ Keylong
Day 2 Sep 26 - Day Trip to Chandratal and night halt @ Keylong
Day 3 Sep 27 - Leave for LEH.

Visiting chandratal will be helpful and can it be done in one day trip... Is it worth it or carry on day 2 to LEH??
