Suj,
I agree! this is my first trip to leh, we have just graduated, and my other two friends have serious issues with time, as in they're planning to fly abroad for higher studies. At the same time, we all are gung ho abt going to ladakh to escape the horrible rains here and because we'll be back to india only after a long time, we want to make best use of the 10-12 days available here. Hence extending dates is out of question for us. We're planning to do a more lengthy tour ladakh again sometime later. Listen Suj,I have an idea...I need few partners urgently to share costs. Why dont we atleast share the common costs as in manali-leh trip and pongong, khardongla excursion. If you wanna spend more time, you continue your stay there and we'll head back to manali earlier. That way , we both can save some money and at the same time , you can stay over in leh for some more days if you want. I have got a quote from a travel agent in leh who for Rs 5000 pp (min 6 pax) is willing to provide us a private car from manali, do khardongla and pangong excursions and drop us back to manali. Sounds like a good deal to me, i just need 1-2 ppl more..We're 4 already. I'm planning to book rail tickets on 16th, if you're in, please e-mail me at shrinathiyer[at]yahoo{dot}com and we can exchange numbers. Srinath |

Hi Shrinath, Suj & all
We ( my wife & I )were to leave yesterday for leh, but the train from Mumbai to Delhi were cancelled due to gujjar's strike & as usual some patners backed out at the last minute. Had to cancel all the hotel bookings. So finally planning to around by 25th June, when I expect the trains to actaully start running. Though dates are still flexible. Was keen on hiring a private passing taxi, so that you can stop whenever & wherever you wish to. Either from Delhi or Manali. Wanna do manali- leh route spread opver two days. Probabaly we can share costs on common routes Delhi- Manali, Manali - Leh, Pangong & Khardungla. I guess, this would be comon in all ititneraries. Let me know, if this interests you, pls PM me & we can talk over the phone.

Is Mumbai Rajdhani not running now ? We (me and the wife) have reservation for 20-June to Delhi and then will reach Manali via Volvo on 22-Jun. Starting from Manali to Leh from 23-Jun and have exactly same issue with the jeep sharing....Let me know if we can help each other and also have a good time
![]() Now, that, if the trains are running now .. but I didn't see any big news in last few days. |

Hey Ashish, your plan of 25th suits me to a T but r u leaving from mumbai or surat? I will call or mail u later but just wanted 2 keep everyone in the loop. It would have been good to have shrinath & simant....whatever going with us so that we have 1 big group starting together. However i am a bit doubtful about the 20th june date now due to sudden changes in deadlines in office project.
Hey Shri, lets discuss this a little bit. If u r leaving on 21st i.e. saturday then it shudnt be a problem for me. but i wud still prefer 25th. Yes even i havent seen any big news of train cancellation uptil now altho the agitation is going on for ages. |

i have been in touch with railway guys... and it's not great news at all, for mumbai guys. All except 4 trains to Delhi are cancelled, and each of the 4 trains running (Rajdhani, Paschim, Golden Temple and Swaraj) are running 10 hours late.
Suj, unexpectedly, one of my friend has backed out and I'm now a doubtful starter for Leh, but I'd like to be in touch with the plans being made here. |

The website says "TRAIN IS TEMPERORILY DIVERTED BETWEEN NAGDA JN and MATHURA JN" for 2951 Delhi bound rajdhani..it doesn't say how much delay, but if it's 10 hrs, that put me off my Delhi-Manali schedule the same day ?
Can this continue till Friday ?? |

Taking a train to delhi makes it really frustrating for mumbai ppl, as all buses to manali leave in the evening and the trains with delay taken into account would mean they also reach evening/night.
The website shows that, but if you call 139 (IR Call Centre) and then do as instructed, in the end your call is directed to a manual operator, you just ask him abt rajdhani or paschim's approx delay, he'll tell you it's on an average 10 hours!!!! In fact, yest he told me 2952 Rajdhani was leaving Delhi for Mumbai 10 hours late from Delhi itself!! As to if these will continue till friday, well i think so because the railways have been ignorant completely of passenger's plight for past 26 days. Media says the talks are on, but neither media nor railways has bothered to pay attention to the mumbai-delhi trunk route. Pathetic state of affairs!! |

yes i agree this agitation has been going on for a long time but somehow the media is not covering it all that much and certainly not giving much news about the disrupted train service. They r more busy with the Arushi murder case.
Anyways, are there no trains going thru central route? also are there buses going to delhi? Shri, i think your friends had a serious problem with dates right? If u r flexible then maybe you can push it a bit further like us. Me and Ashish r planning to go together around 25th or so but it wud be good to have a few more. Trains ka dekhna padega. |

Hey guys... i read the entire thread... and looks pretty interesting... !
actually i m frm bangalore.. and am planning to visit leh starting 21st june to July 1 (inclusive of travel days)... and i m currently looking to join a group of like minded ppl... to share the exhorbitant prices on transport... rite frm delhi to leh and exploring of the surrounding areas.. ! since i am a photographer.. i wudnt want to travel by public transport .. and neither by those taxis which cover the entire stretch in one day... ! so i prefer either taking a self drive jeep frm manali on hire.. (which may be very expensive) or may tk a royal enfield.. ! but since i m alone.. i may not tk the risk of biking up to leh alone.. ! however.. if i cud join a group in manali (bikers).. thn it wud be gr8 from adventure and costs perspective.. ! so anyone interested to join the trip.. either to tk a jeep on self hire basis (frm manali) or for biking from manali... plz do drop in a line.. ! well Ankur, we still havent finalised our plans and dates. However public transport wont give u a chance to take pictures at all so the self drive jeep is a better option. i am ok with 21st as well as after that so i will have to see who i will be going with. will keep u in the loop.

i'm in for self hire, ..and i am a photography enthusiast too.. the only thing is, getting a self hire jeep as i dont know if people rent out self hires from leh, and particularly, the insurance and all may be tricky...
when i was planning a self hire from Delhi itself, Avis told me they will reserve 50K from my cr card as insurance... that's too much.. since the road is new to me, i am not so confident about wht lies ahead.... but, if we can form a group, i am in |

The bombay delhi rajdhani which left on 14th june at 16.40 hours arrived at new delhi on 15th june after 1700 hours taking more than 24 hours instead of the normal 18 hours.
it took a longer route via nagda bhopal jhansi bina agra Look at the brighter side u travelled more at the same price and you saw more of india specially madhya pradesh(Hindustan ka dil dekho) |

If that's what Mumbai Rajdhani is doing since last 1 month, and is going to do for the next 4 days, then I've missed my Delhi-Manali Rajtravels Volvo at 6PM !!
