Manali - Leh Ladakh - Srinagar in July 2011. Need companions...

Hi friends,

I would be driving to Spiti valley in my own vehicle in mid-July 2011. After taking a short break in Manali for 2-3 days I am driving ahead to Ladakh.

I will be starting from Chandigarh on 11-Jul-2011 and expected to reach Manali on/ around 18-Jul, may be a day more depending upon the weather and other things... Details of this can be found at my post in Himachal Pradesh forum at:

Later on 22-July or 23-July I'll start my journey to Ladakh, exiting via Srinagar.

My plan for this trip is:

Day 01 Manali - Darcha
Day 02 Darcha - Leh
Day 03 Tso Moriri - Leh
Day 04 Leh
Day 05 Leh - Hemis - Thiksey - Shey - Stok - Shanti Stupa
Day 06 Leh - Khardung la - Nubra valley (Diskit/ Hunder)
Day 07 Nubra - Wari la - Pangong Tso
Day 08 Pangong Tso - Leh
Day 09 Leh
Day 10 Leh - Lamayuru
Day 11 Lamayuru - Srinagar
Day 12 Srinagar
Day 13 Srinagar - Pathankot

I am looking for travel companions to share the cost of trip. If anybody is interested to join, please let me know...

we (4 people) are also planning to go by bikes (enfields) from chandigarh this june end or july first week.
Have u planned your Itinerary?
Do u have any idea regarding rented bikes from chandigarh or amritsar?

we actually prepared our plan which will start from chandigarh and we were hoping to start biking from there and in return journey can cover Amritsar too..
Wat do u suggest?

The route that covers Manali , leh , kargil , drass , srinagar , Amritsar and den to delhi is nice.

There are a lot of places in Manali from where u can pick rented bikes.No idea about the cost .If you are good at troub;e shooting then rented bikes are a good option.

I will be riding on My Electra in July.

I have prepared my itinerary.. but m left with only one thing..
i have spared last 2 days for Zanskar..
Can anybody please suggest the route and also how can we gop for River Rafting there?

It would be better if you tell us your itinerary so that we could suggest something for Ladakh... e.g. if you are taking the same route as I am, you could do rafting in Zanskar river. Starts from Delhi at 6 PM"
Day-2 "Manali-Leh Bus
Manali - Keylong: Departure from Manali at 11am, arrival at Keylong at around 6pm and night stay at Keylong."
Day-3 "Keylong - Leh: Departure from Keylong at 5am and arrival at Leh at 7pm.
Reaching Leh at 7 PM and check in hotel"
Day-4 Leh-Pangong-Leh
Day-5 Leh-Tso Moriri-Leh
Day-6 Leh-Khardung La-Nubra Valley
Day -7-8 Zanskar

"Route: Leh - Kargil - Sanko - Parakachik - Rangdum - Panzi La - Padum (Zanskar Valley)

Distance: Leh - Kargil 235 kms + Kargil - Padum 245 kms = 480 kms"

Day-9 Leh city Trip
Day-10 Reach Manali

You looks very optimist ... taking all connecting bus schedules, back to back... and one day trips to high altitudes without allowing your body to acclimatize...

You are forgetting that you are in the land of mighty Himalayas... Please read threads on AMS... there's good information given by 'vistet'... check it.

You are expecting to reach Leh at 1900 hrs & immediately planning a day trip to Pangong Tso next day... what about the Inner Line Permit? When are you going to arrange it?

Your itinerary does not look practical. Please replan! Stay safe!

in your rough itenerary you acnt make it tso moriri and nubra valley as day trips ....
we too are in leh from 29th june to 6th july .....wish you a enjoyable journey....cheers.

It will be a tough ask! Kargil-Padum is a 12-14 hr drive .... so you would reach Padum in the night and leave very early in the morning.

Try to spend a day in Padum and visit Stongde, Karsha and Zangla. This circuit take a full day.
