Age is not an issue in itself . From what I´ve seen Gurudongmar is normally done as a day trip , so as long as you´ve had at least a night at 3000 meters or higher you should be doing ok. Keep in mind that Gangtok is quite low in Himalayan terms , well below 2000 meters : no acclimatization taking place there.

Hey, does anyone know if Diamox is available in Chandigarh or Manali. I tried to buy some from my local chemist in Panchkula (next to Chd) yesterday and the guy had no idea what I was talking about either with "diamox" or "acetazolamide". Is there an Indian brand name for it?

Diamox is only used for treating glaucoma in the lowlands . Yes, available in Manali , it was labeled Diamox. Dosages at http://korta.nu/5c3a

Alchol can help opening up circulation in hands and feet etc. - which is good if you have arrived in a warm room , otherwise it will only worsen the cold effects.

Alcohol , even small amounts , means higher urine output , and dehydration is already a common problem for the unacclimatized.

If you get a headache it´s impossible to tell if it comes from alcohol or altitude , or both , and you can´t go higher.
