Leh to Manali End Of September
I am flying to Leh from Delhi and would like to travel from Leh to Manali at the end of September and was wondering if it is firstly, possible by Jeep and secondly if it is recommended.
Also, if anyone can recommend any travel companies that can organise a Jeep that I can contact via email, that would be great. |

It is possible by jeep, in fact going by one allows you to do the journey in 1 day unlike buses which tend to break it up into two. Its a common route and hence no problems that way other than ofcourse the exhaustion factor...
Other members would be able to help out with contact details for taxi's/jeep's etc but there are enough plying...you can get a private one or jump on board a shared one, the latter having a substantially lesser price tag.

Would you suggest I organise the Jeep in advance or would it be safe to organise it once I am in Leh? |

One more question. Does anyone know what the weather conditions are like that time of year in Leh? And also the conditions on the road from Leh to Manali.

the roads will be fine barring any unforseen problem. The highway is offically open till Mid October so you are well within the time frame...

Hiya...
Whether you wanna book a jeep in advance or not should depend on the number of people in your group... If alone, it is best to just contact any of the plethora of travel companies in leh town organising jeep trips from leh to manali - it will not be a problem... Relax... If you book in advance, you will surely miss out on a much better deal... The jeep from Leh leaves for Manali at 4.00 a.m. sharp - and you have to be prepared for one helluva tiring day - as unlike most of the other trips, this one is usually not broken... The reason could possibly be that while going from Manali to Leh, the tourists demands are such that everyone is in total awe of the scintillating scenery all around... and one stops over for the night either at sarch or at pang... But on the way back, it's more of a getting back to civilization kinda feeling, and so, the taxis don't stop for the night and do the entire stretch in one go...! Cheers...! For more on Ladakh, do check out this thread for sure : Ladakh in 5 Days...???!!! (Or 6 or 7 or 10 or 15...!!!) |
