Leh - Rent a Self drive there?

Hi,

I am planning a trip with my wife to go to Leh from 12th September till 25th and was hoping to do a bit of driving once I am there. Couple of Questions:

1. Is it possible to rent a car for self drive once you are in Leh? or Kargil?

2. If I rent a car in Delhi, is it possible to self drive a rented (non private number) somehow?

Please help...

It may be, but I doubt there is much of a market for self drive hire. I didn't see any car rental booths at Leh airport. Hopefully someone else can help you with this.

Yes it is possible, companies like Hertz do hire self drive cars. When I looked into it, I found that with insurance it would cost about twice as much per day as hiring a car and driver.

This is the most difficult one. I would ideally prefer to rent it in Leh itself, anyone has any ideas?
