Leh-Ladakh Itinerary July 2012 - Help Please

Hi All,

We are a group of friends planning to goto Leh-Ladakh next week.
I am falling short of one day and would love to have your views on how to handle the itinerary. The plan is as follows:
Day 1) Reach Manali
Day 2) Reach Keylong/Sarchu based on AMS and acclaimatizing.
Day 3) Reach Leh
Day 4) Leh local sightseeing and ILP
Day 5) Leave for Nubra Valley (Night Halt)
Day 6) Leave back for Leh
Day 7) Leave for Pangong Tso (Night halt)
Day 8) Leave back for Leh
Day 9) Planned day trip to Tso Moriri (WANT to do a Night halt but short of time)
Day 10) Planned Rafting trip and leh local (The rafting is important. Local sightseeing not so much).
Day 11) Leh - Kargil (Night Halt)
Day 12) Kargil - Srinagar
Day 13) Fly back from Srinagar.

Is their any way I can Travel directly from Pangong - Moriri or Nubra to Pangong. Or if I can have the rafting organized on the same day as I return from Nubra. please Advise?

You can not do Tso Moriri in a day - will have to stay their overnight in Korzok. On the contrary, you can visit Pangong Tso and return to Leh in a single day - I did that last month.

You can go from Pangong to Tso Moriri directly but it involves spending a night enroute with very basic aminities (basic homestays)

To avoid AMS, start your journey from Srinagar and return via Manali

Anirban1954 - I understand Pangong can be done in a day but I wanted to actually stay the night there to enjoy the view and sunrise.
Can you suggest if it is possible to travel from Nubra to Pangong in a single day?

Also is it worth staying in Tso Moriri or should I plan to stay in Nubra (hunder/sedkit day 1 and turtuk day 2) one extra day?

## What is you mode of travel from Manali to Leh? Two day this year sounds tough. What if you see a 6 hours long traffic Jam at Rohtang Pass? Moreover, 2 day is like running through the heaven. You want to enjoy it or just want to touch the places?

## While coming back from Nubra, drive towards Pangong. Stay en route at Tangste instead of Leh.

## Given the time you have, it is impossible to have night stay both at Pangong and Tso Moriri. I would suggest to stay for few hours at Pangong and then drive towards Tso moriri on the same day. Saty at Chumathang for the night. Next morning drive to Tso moriri and stay there overnight. Next morning drive back to Leh.

## Why spend last two days for driving to Srinagar. Fly directly out of Leh.

If I were you, my itinerary would be

Day 1) Leave early morning (5 AM) from Manali. Reach Manali last night.
Day 2) Reach Keylong/Sarchu based on AMS and acclaimatizing.
Day 3) Reach Leh (buffer)
Day 4) Reach Leh by late morning and take ILP. Relax and walk the Leh market for the rest of the day.
Day 5) Leave for Nubra Valley (Night Halt)
Day 6) Leave back for Leh drive towards Pangong and stay at Tangste.
Day 7) Go to Pangong. Eat breakfast stay for 2 hours and drive back to Karu and take left to Tso Moriri. Stay overnight at Chumathang.
Day 8) Reach Tso moriri by late morning. Enjoy whole day and night.
Day 9) Leave for Leh via Sumdo - Tso kar - Taglang La route. Reach leh.
Day 10) River Rafting
Day 11) Buffer for Local sight seeing
Day 12) Wow! another buffer day? Did I miss something?
Day 13) Fly back from Leh.

Two opposites : sleeping in Keylong is how you prevent AMS on the way up to Leh, sleeping at The Vomit Hilton ("Sarchu" ) , more than a thousand meters higher , is how you get sick.
