On paper your plan looks perfectly doable, though I am skeptical about day 6. You have to arrange for permits before you travel to Pangong Tso. If you are not doing it in Day 5 itself, I am not sure you will be able to collect the same in the morning and reach Pangong on time.

Again, on Paper it looks doable - you can collect the permit before lunch and then head off to Pangong and reach by afternoon/evening. But that limits your staying options in Pangong - you should reach early to Pangong to get a good accommodation and negotiate on the prices.

As you mentioned, you would like to enjoy, then try to cut out vaishno devi part and add these days to your Leh plan, making a complete Leh tour.
Thank you for your comments saugata
I wants to know that what is the timing to get permit at leh for pangong tso? What is the requirement to get permission for pangong tso ?

Yours venky

Ivana,

Covering up is best. according to UK definitions SPF 30 is about as high as you can get. USA one go higher but the regulations/definitions differ. As someone who crisps up nicely in ladakh after 30 mins full sun and can boast of having had sunburn on the tops his ears on one occasion i can recommend SPF30 on anything exposed. The nose and the back of the hands go first. Forget beachwear.

Thanks, really, Captain Bruce.
I will forget beachwear.

According to dheeraj, its true only for winter and early season time. 'IN season time there will not be such hard restrictions'.

Also, in what would affect only me, I was able to extend my trip to 9 days in ladakh after some begging, pleading and grovelling with my better half. Skipping Tsomoriri, I will doing nothing-2, lamayuru/drass/alchi-1, nubra-2, pangong-2 with a rest day in the middle. For the mathematically inclined, last day is leh to delhi. Now for accommodations..

Dont want to sound lazy, but I did search/read multiple threads regarding accommodation, but most of them are generic threads none with as much information as this thread has for itnerary planning. If there is one, please please send me the link. Again, am not lazy, been searching/reading multiple threads as a full time job the past few days. Just cant seem to find the right thread. Thanks for your help.

Have you seen Dheeraj's page :
http://devilonwheels.com/index.php/tag/ladakh-hotel/

For accommodation reviews I found TA and BCMT much more useful.

Yes I have been looking at his blog for a few days now. Getting a response from some of these places through email is tough. Need to start making calls now. Thanks

I got a reservation at Oriental House for my entire trip. I was surprised just a phone call was all that was needed, no deposit. Hope Phunsuk wrote it down on the correct calendar.
Thanks everyone for helping with everything for my trip. wish I was flying tomorrow.

Short trip advice

Hello all,

I'm committing what seems to be a cardinal sin on this forum and taking a 6-day fly-in trip to Leh/Ladakh. What's more i've done very little planning and I arrive on the 30th!

We're very mindful of the possibility for AMS and I think what differentiates us from some of the other posters is we don't particularly want to "cram in" all the major sights or whatever. We just want to structure a relatively relaxed stay that gives us a feel for the region and a break from the heat - we've been traveling around Rajasthan and Delhi for the past several brutal weeks. I'm sure that a longer trip to Ladakh would absolutely be life changing in its own way and I hope to make such a trip eventually but this is not it.

I was hoping for some advice on how to achieve this. We arrive in Leh the morning of the 30th and we're figuring two nights there for acclimitization and light local sightseeing. After that I roughly planned on finding an easy hike, perhaps overnight (obviously not at a very high altitude relative to Leh - perhaps lower?) and then a jeep/taxi trip somewhere interesting, again perhaps overnight, before returning to Leh the night before an early morning departure on the 6th back to Delhi.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cardinal sin on this forum is because a lot of newbies who are not aware of the region think it is just another place where they can take a flight to, and do some shopping and hop places in hours.
It is to bring them to the reality and help them planning a better vacation.

Glad you do not want to cram in everything.
About your plan to visit places and what you should try to see and what you should be skipping. This has been discussed multiple times.

On a broader side I would suggest -

2 nights in leh - monasteries (there are many chose what interests you)and the palace, also do not miss the small climb to shanti stupa at dusk. Its brilliant.

You can chose to go towards nubra for 2 nights.

Add an additional night in Nubra or leh according to what you find interesting.

I would suggest skip the lakes since you can live with the thought of not having touched all the possible toursit places.

And people shouldn't be visiting Pangong on a day trip( i mean let the tourists visit Pangong in a day),atleast discerning tourists like us should stay there for a night.

IMO Shey and Thiksey cannot be missed at all. And yes you should climb up,not drive up.
I found Rizong monastery(and the up there) to be much more interesting than Likir or Alchi.

2 points from me.

1. When do you get the permits?- you need a spare day, unless the travel agent arranging for this marathon.
2. Do nubra before pangong tso.
