Leh in Oct '09

Hi All

Greetings. At last my dream is coming true. Going to Leh (flying in) in Oct '09.
My plan is:

Fri 9th Oct: Delhi to Leh. Evening at market. Rest.
Sat 10th Oct: Rest. Local sight seeing in & around Leh.
Sun 11th Oct: To Tso Moriri, Tso Kor. Stay at Karzok at night.
Mon 12th Oct: Back to Leh.
Tue 13th Oct: To Nubra. Stay at Sumur for night.
Wed 14th Oct: Back to Leh.
Thu 15th Oct: Leh - Pangong Tso - Leh
Fri 16th Oct: Morning flight to Delhi

Now, as Oct is not exactly the tourist season, I have got few questions to ask you friends.

1. I will have to get the permits once I reach. I will have Fri, Sat for that.
Will it be easy to get?

2. Are there any specific days when any roads are closed? I need to re schedule based on
that.

3. Are the stay plans ok? I am thinking because I am flying in.

4. Just another thing, will I get cloudy sky in Oct. Blue lakes, reflections.
Any idea, anyone? I am a photographer. I know this is probably not the right time, still.

All the best for your trip

First and foremost advise I can give you is please cross check if all areas would be accessible during that time... though I have not been to Ladhak during that time - I believe around about that time the passes start to close ( not certain on this part- hopefully people with expertise on winter travel can guide you better)- ideally October month should be okay for a visit- even I am planning a winter trip to Ladhak

Check this so as to avoid any disappointments

Regarding your Itinerary I would advise this in order to give you more time to get well lets say acclimatized.

9th Oct: Delhi to Leh. Evening at market. Rest.
10th Oct: Rest. Local sight seeing in & around Leh.
11th Oct: Leh - Pangong Tso - Leh
12th Oct: To Nubra. Stay at Sumur for night.
13/14th Oct: Back to Leh.
14th Oct: To Tso Moriri, Tso Kor. Stay at Karzok at night.
15th Oct: Back to Leh.

Theoretically this is possible for Indian citizens...contact your guest house owner or any trusted local travel agent to get this done.

As far as I know there no such thing on the routes you are taking unless as a military requirement.

I wont bank on it ... the lighting situation in Leh can be a it tricky - I messed up few shots last time - tip make sure how your fill flash works

Thanks a lot for that mate.
Initially I thought of this plan. Problem is, I heard that on Monday, Khardung La remains closed (so, Nubra side remains inaccessible from Leh). Now 12th is a Monday.

Best thing about travelling in himalayas is that you cannot have a fixed itenary - use one to plan out things and be prepared to adapt.

Regarding Monday closure of Khurdung better check it out first hand after landing (never heard of it )- ideally the point is keep Tso moriri to the last since its at an higher altitude and you would need some acclimatization before you visit the place.
