Leh, 10 days, Mid May
Hi,
I am planning a 10 day trip to leh/kargil/zanskar in mid may. I am planning to leave on 17th of may from bombay. As far as i have read, the road from manali as well as the srinagar-leh highways will be closed at this time. We would be 3 of us(avg age 25) travelling to leh. We absolutely don't mind roughing it out and will be really on a shoestring budget especially since we would have to fly into leh if the roads are closed. How exactly far away from the main city are the homestay options. Also, i read on the jk tourism site that guest houses are available for as cheap as rs 75 per night. How good are these? Food and clean water are not much of an issue as previous trips have immunized our stomachs. How many of the internal roads would be open during this time, especially leh-kargil etc. Are local buses available for such routes or is hiring a jeep the preferred options please advice |
