Ladakh Updates
Hi!
There is a new book:
Ladakh (Kashmir Manali)'The Essential Guide'
-written by Partha S. Banerjee'
-printed by Milestone Himalayan series.
(Sorry I couldn't find the book online even at milestones website! - it is printed in June 2008 and can be bought in Manali and Leh).
This is a wonderful guidebook especially if you are travelling overland to Ladakh and the reasons are:
1. The Overland sections are covered in details along with maps.
2. For those who do not want to go very deep but yet want to know the facts about Buddhism - it has a very good sections.
3. Along with number 2 - it also covers the History and geological aspects of the region.
Priced at Rs.795 - it may sound a bit expensive for us Indians but it is worth it. Do not go heavily by the prices mentioned for the hotels etc - but rather use it as a benchmark.
The trekking section seems to be borrowed from a travel agent - but it is still a good book to be used along with other trekking guide (Charlie Loram).
I will keep updating this section..

Stok Kangri news
Hi!
I see a lot of questions like 'how much will a car cost from A to B?', 'how much is a guide?'- there is so much talk about money only! Use the guidebook mentioned above - it gives you most of the information.
Here's something new - that i was unaware of too
maybe someone has put up already but I will repeat here).
For all the hopefuls, wanting to climb the Stok Kangri: The Indian Mountaineering FOundation now has an office in Leh where they issue a permit to climb the said peak for a minimal fee. The Permit can be obtained in one working day (keep 2 days just to be safe).
take care and be safe!
