Ladakh Trip - Sep 25 to Oct 2nd 2009

Hi All,

I was planning to go to Ladakh from Sep 25 to Oct 4nd 2009 with my friend.

My Initial plan is to

Sep 25th: Fly from Bangalore - Delhi and catch a bus to manali
Sep 26th: Reach manali and take rest
Sep 27th: Start my journey from manali towards LEH.
Hire a jeep or shared jeep or bus ??
Go through Rohtang pass and reach keylong/sarchu. Where should i stay wrt AMS (Altitude sickness)??
Sep 28th: Start from Keylong/sarchu and proceed towards LEH and reach LEH by evening and take rest
Sep 29th: LEH and around
Sep 30th: LEH and around
Oct 01st: LEH and around
Oct 02nd: LEH and around
Oct 03nd: LEH and around
Oct 04th: Fly back from LEH to DELHI and back to Bangalore

I need some suggestion
1)Is this iternary okie or needs some changes.
2)Regarding stay @ Keylong or Sarchu wrt AMS.
3)Is there any chance of viewing snow during this time
4)Is Sep end and early october good time to visit
5)Places to stay in Manali and LEH
6)Jeep driver or Travel agent info from manali to LEH
7)Jeep driver or Travel agent info in LEH
8)I have booked my return flight tickets on 4th Oct around 9 PM. is it okie.. I have to spare one day due to flight cancellation from LEH to DELHI
9)How about climate and being a bangalorean (moderate climate) I fear COLD. What precautions
10)Important places to cover in LEH in 5 days
11) Any more info required, I am travelling for 1st time

If budget is not a constraint then hire a jeep or else sharing brings the costs down.

September is the season and I think early October would just be catching it at the end, so it is a reasonable time to visit.

No idea about the snow part, I was there in June and there was no snow in Leh.

We are coming from Hyderabad. The snow part I am not sure, hoping not too much...

Can you please tell me what is the best way to travel from Delhi to Leh??? We are on a bit tight budget. What is the cost if we hired a Jeep or a Taxi? Would there be any pit stops in our way?

Games_icon, it makes to travel from Delhi to Manali and then to Leh. Take some rest at Manali and then go to Leh.

I went there sometime back in 2005 so prices would have gone up but hiring an entire jeep at that time from Manali to Leh was around 10,000 t 12,000 rupees.

Here is what I wrote about that trip.

When you share a jeep you get a seat. The taxis overload (4 people in the middle row meant for 3) and the price was 800. It would be 1000 to 1200 now or maybe a little more.

Lets say 1500...
but would that ride be comfortable?

We did it without a break and it took us 18 hours.

thats one big journey... Anyway... looks like we have more planning to do.
