i am also planning a trip up to leh at the exact same time, but i haven't actually done any of the planning (eeek).
i'm pretty sure Nayan, that the reason why things seemed booked that week, is becuase His Holiness the Dalai Lama is giving a teaching in Leh from Aug 11th-14th. Did anyone else know this? This is the main reason why I am going. After that, I would love to join up with other like minded travellers to do day trips or basic treks, so as to keep the costs down. Let me know! hi gelfball,
I have noted down your cell and mail id. I would suggest please edit your post and remove these details. Its not very safe to give such personal details in an open forum. For any personal message, we can also communicate via the PM facility in this site. Thanks for mentioning the dalai lamas visit. That must be the reason why everything was booked. I sure feel better thinking I have confirmed acco reserved I am definitely interested in joint day trips. I dont think I will go for any trekking as I have problem in climbing uphill. Hope it turns out to be a really memorable trip ![]() |

Hello there !
last weekend we went to the HPTDC office in chennai to book our tickets for the bus travel from manali to leh.. As per our plan we were supposed to start from manali on the 13th and reach leh on 14th (night) but when we tried booking the tickets the official told us that there are no daily buses anymore to leh, and he gave me 2 options 10th august and 14th august. 10th august is too early for us so we have for the time being booked the bus tickets on 14th august. But the official also told us that depending upon the demand they may arrange trips on any day... so he told us tht if we are lucky we may get a bus on 12th or 13th which would be perfect for us. Now, The question ? Do you guys have similar experiences ? Has anyone been lucky enough to get a last minute change ? does HPTDC run such unscheduled trips on demand ? PS:- we also know that we can take jeeps or sumo etc.etc.. but we are only 2 ppl and i guess it will be expensive for us.. is there any other alternative/ if we take jeep or sumo will it be expensive ? comfortable ? |

a. Contact antrek: info@antrek.co.in
b. Chillax. keep a day buffer, landup in Manali before late evening, ask around at the main market (round about, where right is to rohtang). I saw about 20-25 such qualises/taxis enroute to Leh during my ride. You're going in peak season - pay some extra, but seats you surely shall get. c. PM lehlover. He just did the trip himself. |

Take the HRTC or J&KSTRC bus, it would be cheaper and it goes to Leh daily. You shouldn't have problem getting the ticket once in Manali. Else you always have the option of getting a seat in a shared taxi, that would cost you roughly 1200-2500 depending on whether or not you want to reach leh in one day or in two days.

jane,
cancel it if you can - the guest houses of hotel khayul, zarla are very deecnt, and if you can live without hot running water (they supply in buckets) and a heater (you DONT need it) - they are pretty decent for about 300 bucks a day!! |
