Ladakh through Srinagar,October 1st week?
Hi,
I am planning for Ladakh at 1st week of October. My questions are:
1) Is the Srinagar-Leh route open at that time?
2) I like to hire a car/Jeep from Srinagar,1st night stay at Sonmarg, 2nd at Lamayru and will reach Leh in 3rd day.Is any car/jeep available under this condition? If yes, what's the cost?
3) What is the average temperature of this region at this time?
4) My team is of 3-members, my wife and son(10yrs.).Will it be a problem for a 10yrs child at the altitude of Leh and surroundings?

1 Yes
2 For this you will either have to hire a taxi exclusively or you can simply take taxi/bus to each of these places and spend the night and in the morning, start looking for another vehicle. I guess it would be around 14-16k if you hire a vehicle exclusively, though it might be slightly less as it is almost end season.
3 Varies from place to place and time of day, but it would be okish for most part.
4 Shouldn't be a problem for your son, provided you take care not to let him stress himself too much and monitor his water and food intake.

Thanks to both of you. This will be my 3rd time Ladakh trip.
In 1999 Itried the Kibber-Parang la- Rupsu valley trek route but could not cross Parang la for heavy snow fall. Next time in 2000 I trekked the Darcha-Padum route and then from Padum to Leh by bus. The final one was in 2003 when I did round Tso Moriri trek and then through Yangma valley to Leh. Each time I did the Leh-Manali or Leh-Srinagar route by public bus, so I have no idea of taxi in this region. I have gone thoroughly through Mr.Yogesh's
"A-Z of traveling to Ladakh" and this is very helpful to me. My another question please: Is Chang la is open also at October 10th?

11.10.2009- Return to Leh
12.10.2009- Journey to Nubra Valley via Khardung La,night stay at
Diskit/Hunder
13.10.2009- Return to Leh
14.10.2009- Rest day at Leh

Breaking off the journey to Pangong Tso at a lower elevation is good , getting three nights minimum at Leh´s altitude would be a lot better. I´d work in some of the lower nights before setting out for Pangong Tso.

Thank you Vistet for your suggestion. I thought as I will stay at Lamayru one night before reaching Leh, one day rest at Leh will be sufficient. Now I am thinking one night more at Leh before the journey towards Pangong Tso.Are you suggesting Tangse by lower nights before Pangong Tso? Similar Threads
