last year june i planned m trip to ladakh thru manali.hired a sumo and driver. made till rothang and turned around. it was one of my scariest trip of my life. the windy narrow road and the aggressive unsafe drivers.

Srinagar-Leh opens tomorrow, the earliest opening date known to me on the Manali-Leh road is April 20th - an extreme.

Last year it opened mid-may around 15May. In fact I crossed Rohtang to Leh on 25th May. It should be around the same time, mid May, this year too, I guess??

Guys, I am visiting Leh along with my spouse in the first week of June. We are flying form Delhi to Leh. We plan to spend few days in Leh and then move on to Srinagar via Kargil by road.

I came to know that Leh-Kargil-Srinagar journey may take about 24 hours. Taxis and buses are the options. Does anyone of you planning the same around that time? My dates (tentative) are 7th/8th June to this journey.

I want to know the costs and time required to do this journey.. and do's and don'ts.

For the costs,I believe it would be around Rs.2500 for a day if you hire a Qualis,and accomodation and foods may be taken as Rs.350-400 per day,being the minimum!

hope to check with you whether your trip is confirmed? my friend and i (2 gals) are considering doing either sikkim or ladakh in the 1st 2 weeks of june. but i dont really have an idea of how i should travel.... but the road frm manali to leh seems interesting....just that i m worried about the cost of travel..

Road update : light vehicle traffic coming through as of yesterday , confirmed by BRO ("open for inspection") , full opening within ten days , and .. child delivery . More here

That's a very useful piece of information, just what I was eagerly waiting to hear
And what do you think,would Manali-Leh highway be opened soon enough for normal traffic once Rohtang is officially opened?

I too will be in Ladakh end of June. i am on my own but would like to do some trekking. I do not want to trek alone so i was wondering if i contact the local guides and they might allow me to tag along with other bigger groups?

IS that common?
