| Ladakh Itinerary Help Dear All, I would like a sincere advise from all who have travelled to Leh-Ladakh region in the recent past. We are a group of 25ppl of a family, with age groups 22 - 55. Below is our itinerary: Initial Few Days in Kashmir ...1) Srinagar to Kargil (with night halt at Kargil) 2) Kargil to Alchi (night halt at Alchi) 3) Alchi to Leh (2 nights in Leh) 4) Tirth - Nubra Valley (2 nights at Swiss Cottages) 5) Back to Leh with local sightseeing and Pangong Lake.( 3 nights in Leh) My questions: 1) How many kms is Alchi from Kargil and is night stay required, considering long drive? If we opt out Alchi, is there a bypass from Kargil to Leh and how many kms? 2) Tirth, Nubra Valley: How are the conditions of these tents? Well maintained? we have ppl with us who are particular abt the hotels. Should we stay 2 nights here? Even if you advise 1 night, does it become hectic to travel from Leh to Nubra and back next day to leh? 3) Should we also take out another day to visit Tsomoriri area? Do we require to stay at that place or return back the same day? How are the conditions of the tents there? Please send your view immediately as we have to freeze the itenary asap. Regards VISHAL MEHTA |

| 1) How many kms is Alchi from Kargil and is night stay required, considering long drive? If we opt out Alchi, is there a bypass from Kargil to Leh and how many kms? Ideally its a straight route from Kargil to Leh which can be done in a single day ( Alchi requires a deviation) If you are planning to visit Alchi then its better to spend the night there so that you dont rush things. In places like Ladhak kilometers does not matter - what matters is the time required to reach the place 2) Tirth, Nubra Valley: How are the conditions of these tents? Well maintained? we have ppl with us who are particular abt the hotels. Should we stay 2 nights here? Even if you advise 1 night, does it become hectic to travel from Leh to Nubra and back next day to leh? Frankly nothing much to do in Hundar / diksit for 2 days unless you plan to spend one night in Hundar / diksit and second in Sumur Dont know which swiss tents you are talking about and where - but in Hundar Snow leopard GH and a tented accomodation opposite to it are good. 3) Should we also take out another day to visit Tsomoriri area? Do we require to stay at that place or return back the same day? How are the conditions of the tents there? If you are seeing Pangong Tso then you can skip Tso Moriri however if you have time its also worth the visit ( and yes its advisable to visit the place towards the latter half of your trip and spend the night there) Please send your view immediately as we have to freeze the itenary asap.

| hi vishal My questions: 1) How many kms is Alchi from Kargil and is night stay required, considering long drive? If we opt out Alchi, is there a bypass from Kargil to Leh and how many kms? Ans 1--alchi from kargil is around 155km and 70 km from leh.. i dont think so that you need to stay at alchi.. Ans 2--tents are ok but will be better if you stay in guest house or hotel in hunder or diskit. and only one night is ok for nubra it will not be hectic.. 3) Should we also take out another day to visit Tsomoriri area? Do we require to stay at that place or return back the same day? How are the conditions of the tents there? Ans 3---for TSo moriri area you need 2 days, means one night stay. and if you will stay in tents at Tso moriri you will enjoy more.. |

1. As you already know Kargil-Alchi is approx 140km. On the way you would find the statue of Buddha (Chamba) on a single rock in Mulbekh and then Lamayuru monastery and will also cross the Moonland. Its a good idea to stay over night at Alchi, as otherwise you have to visit this hamlet which has the oldest (11th century) monastery with Kashmiri woodcraft again from Leh. As its worth visiting. You will find a couple of guest houses and resorts as well in Alchi. Then next day you could start late aftenoon for Leh, as its only another 70km from Alchi. 2. There in Nubra Valley as well you will find camping sites and also decent hotels and guest houses. Before leaving Leh do book your accomodation for Nubra Valley from Leh itself. One night and a day would be enough I hope for Nubra (Leh-Nubra, stay overnight; next day sightseeing around Nubra and back to Leh) Its only around 190km from Leh and around Nubra Valley, ie including Diskit, Sumer, Hunder and Panamik. Also as you reach Leh, do prepare your permits to visit Nubra, Pangong Tso or Tsomoriri. Permits are must. You could prepare them on your own through DC's office or could ask the hotel's agent in Leh to do it for you. They will charge you a nominal service amount. No it should not be hectic.....as many visit Nubra and come back the same day....here you are staying one night at least. So no worries. 3.If you wish to visit Tsomoriri, then you need to stay there overnight. As its alsmost around 240km from Leh to the Lake. Same like Nubra book your accomodations, usually the trend is the agent through whom you hire the vehicle in Leh for this particular trip they only provide the tents and cooks if you mention of staying there. Charges included with the package. (Also another point to remember, I am not aware whether you guys are hiring vehicles from Srinagar or you are travelling in your own cars. As in Leh, as per the Hill Council and Ladakh Taxi Union, they don't allow commercial vehicles from other state to ply and visit the tourist places. The vehicles should have private ownership registration or commercial vehilce should be from J&K. So to be sanguin do also check before hiring any vehicle. Here I have a personal suggestion, I felt Pangong is more beautiful than Tsomoriri and easier and shorter. Its only around 170km from Leh. Also Hemis, Thikshey Monastery and the Stok Palace cum Museum is a must. Again you have not mentioned which is your exit route???? As a matter of fact I was in Leh for four years and had travelled to Ladakh thrice by road via Manali route. Also we as a single family and solo traveller made records by crossing all the highest passes in one trip and reaching Pangong in our Maruti Omni. So all the wishes for your trip to LADAKH What else? Bon voyage..... Pragyan ![]() NB: (if you need any more info on Leh-Ladakh, don't hesitate to buzz me on 09968257171.
