Ladakh in August - Qns
Hey All,
Me and a friend are planning a trip to ladakh in august starting Aug 15th for two weeks. I have a few qns, i was hoping i may find some opinions, answers here. 1. I am trying to reach this Mero Expedition which supposedly allows u to hire guides/ponies as necessary vs. taking a whole package tour. But the phione 01982-253070 doesnt seem to be working. Has anyone reached them recently? Anyone knows of an alternate contact? 2. Or do you know any agents, like Mero who allows you to rent waht you want? 3. We are two girls doing this trek - anything that should be wary off? or is this something we shdnt be thinking of at all? 4. We are planning to do the Markha valley trek. But i was thinking of doing this via Stok to allow us some views of the Karakoram. How difficult is this option. How many additional days will it take? 5. We are likely to be left with 4 days after this trek. Which is a better option - pangong tso or head to kargil/ srinagar? What to do in each of the places? assuming we go to pangong tso - any place we can stay there and do it as a 2 day trip vs. a 1 day journey. thanks again gang!!! -neeraja |

Try to talk to Gyatso of Vajra Voyages at 09906999135 or 01982-252043. He would be able to assist you with your internal trips.
At Pangong So you can stay either at the food tents or huts behind them at the lake or few KM's before the lake (can not recollect the name) there is accommodation. Frankly at Pangong you can only enjoy the view from the Lake, it would be to cold to venture into the water. Enjoy the sun rise and sun set. it does get windy and chilly ! If you plan to drive down to Srinagar. The bus will start in the morning and you will reach Kargil by late afternoon. You cannot do much in Kargil except walk around in the main bazaar or visit Drass/War Memorial. The following day the bus would leave early for Srinagar. If you have 2 days to spare Nubra Valley would be a decent option also. Alternatively not sure about ya plan but if you going back to Manali you could visit Tso Kar / TsoMoriri and head back to Manali. |

Hiya...
Avoid planning your treks sooo much in advance... Once you reach Leh, check out your options regarding the destination / the route / the budget / the guides available / porters / ponies / even the kinda company you'd prefer...! Honestly, it is best not to plan in advance - as once you reach Leh, you are not just likely to, but definitely will, get a much much better and more attractive deal...! Both in terms of the package offered as well as the price...! And relax, you will be spoilt for choice... During season time, every second shop in Leh turns into a trekking / travel unit...! Nubra Valley is definitely a good option for spending those extra days... And for a whole lotta tips, suggestions, and what to do, do check out this thread... Ladakh in 5 Days...???!!! (Or 6 or 7 or 10 or 15...!!!) Cheers...! |

hey - thanks for this info.
Solotrekker - i was worried that since it was the "season", prices may be hiked up steeply. Would you be able to give an idea of how much an 8 day trek would work out to? and what we would need to do it on bare essentials? @amarshah - thanks. But i was hoping to cut down on sumo or bus travel. from that angle which is a better option? no we are not going to manali - plan right now is to fly out from leh. but may be we could drive to Tso morriri and then manali and delhi. Any idea, on what we can do in tso morriri. can we stay there too? @tannaravi - do IM your contact. may be we can touch base when we land up in leh and keep updated of others plan! thanks for the offer! |

MS.N - You can opt a 1 night 2 day trip from Leh to Tso Moriri and back. Yes you would be able to stay in tented camps here. (infact you will find more people for sharing with this option)
Tannaravi - no worries |

@ solotrekker - i totally agree. But its is just comforting if we have already spoken to a few people before hand, to get a feel - if u know what i mean!
otherwise, the idea of landing in ladakh to just find these overpriced luxurious travel agents and no other options would be a dampner! |
