Hello,
I am absolutely new in this forumMe along with my friends are planning to visit Ladakh at the end of april, this year. Although i have understood that april is too early to visit ladakh, but we can hardly manage any other time. So is it possible to arrive ladakh through Leh-Manali highway? and if that is not possible & we have to go over there by Flight, then the nubra valley, pangdong lake Zanskar & other Sight-seeing will remain open at that time?
Thanks

Read this older thread from 2009. The situation may not be the same in 2012.
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi,
Satara

Of course I speak to myself. I need expert advice sometimes.

leh-manali hghway opens around mid-june and closes after september. you will have to either fly into leh or use the leh-srinagar highway (might be open by april, not sure though).
take adequate precautions if travelling by air; the lack of oxygen will cause issue after landing. if possible set aside 2 days for acclimatization. in any case dont make a rushed trip. make plans for backup as with ladakh you can never be too carefull .... njoi

Manali-Leh has only opened once in April over the last decade , in 2004. Openings are spread between mid-May and early June , updates here.

Srinagar-Leh openings are spread between mid-April and first week in June. 2011 it was thrown open on May 4th.

Last ten years openings here , with update link .

Important factors early in season :

* No fresh food until the roads have opened.

* Extremely congested roads first week(s) of open inroads.

* The inroads can be taken out , up to days, by rain , snow and slides.

Not recommending it , but last time I went in by road last days of October - not an extreme. A lot of the openings over the last decade have been around mid-May.

Manali-Leh is a lot harder on your system than flying in, you are at the same altitude as Leh and climbing a few hours away from Manali. Road advice here.

The roads within the Ladakhi heartland are open all year round , Khardung La sees a few outages ,rarely lengthy. I last went there in mid-November , no problems except that the buses were not running because of a few icy patches.

If you go by flight, Nubra and Pangong might well be possible in end April but you won't be able to go to Zanskar for sure. You won't get Pensila open so early in the season.

Have a safe and nice trip.

For budget planning may be you can refer the article here which is available with sample itinerary. Choose the places you want to cover and create a rough plan. We can discuss here and fine tune it accordingly ...

Though as said above, in April both Srinagar - Leh and Manali-Leh will be out. So, most probable option will be fly-in.

Hello! Welcome! yes you can go by road. The roads are excellent. And you can visit all the places u mentioned. however, do carry thermal wear and a complete warm gear. The temperatures are sub zero now.
