just back from leh
hi friends, i ma just back from leh and it was a gr trip i must say..leh is barren yet beautiful...its like very close to nature in its raw form..tso moriri was my favourite followed by nubra valley and thiksey monastry..indus makes its way among the rugged rock solid mountains which change their color as sun rays fall on them...a nice experience i must say,...if any one needs help in planning ,feel free to post your querry..

How did you get back? If you bussed it back, was the road closed/broken at any point? Thanks.

Bag or no Bag?
I know this is a perverbial question, but would you recommend schlepping a sleeping bag and ground pad (tent even?) with me all the way to Leh to do a 5-day trek? I'm leaving for Delhi next week for a 7 week trip and the thought of hauling that stuff all over India isn't so appealing. Thanks for your time. Cheers.

I've just done the Markha Valley Trek, 7 days, although I brought my own sleeping bag and ground mat, the gear was available as part of the trek. The quality of the gear wasn't very good though, my tent leaked when it rained, but this was down to the tent not been put up right in the first place. Not sure if the tent would have stood up to strong rain. One of the other trekkers the first time they used the sleeping bag they found the zip broken, ended up borrowing one from another trek group. I'm glad I brought my own, although will have to carry them around with me for some time now.

hey do not bother about the gear......no need to carry it with u.....yes i agree the quality of gear u get at the trek offices may not be good but i think u can survive with that.....always better than carrying our own gear..it makes our backpacks unduly heavy....i carried my sleeping bag and mat but did not open it at all....tho i did not trek due to time constraints i still feel i wud have not felt the need to carrying my own gear....
at least before setting off from the city u can check out the gear u hire....can do the repairs there itself |
