I'm traveling to Ladakh from 25th Aug to 2nd Sept & need help to finalize my itinerary.

Here's my approx. plan
Day 1: Fly to Leh from Delhi; day to acclimatize & rest
Day 2: Trip to monasteries around Leh
Day 3-4: Trip to Pangong Lake or Tso Moriri. Overnight stay & drive back to leh next day
Day 5,6,7: Drive to khardungla pass, Nubra valley, trek a bit from one village to another.
Day 8: attend Opening ceremony of September fest

- can someone guide me on pricing for each of these trips?
- Someone gave me quote of Rs 10000 per pax (stay, food & travel-Pangong lake); Rs 14000 per pax (stay, food, travel-Tso Moriri). This is based on 2 people traveling. Is that a good quote?
- Can we do both Pangong & Tso Moriri, same trip? Different trip?
- Can we do Nubra valley trip in 2 days?
- Is it good idea to book everything in advance or go & do it in Leh?
- Is there someone who's interested in traveling with us around that time? We can share the cost that way. We are a couple.
- Can someone give me a contact of a guide who can arrange all the trips for us.

Thanks

Subroto and Ajay are to return Bangalore from their Ladakh trip this weekend. They have gone in their respective cars. They have covered all places that you mentioned. I too have done it 3 times, if not all places that you mentioned. We can help you on this here at Bangalore once Subroto is back.

Regards
Abhay

If it means there will be only two of you in the car then it might be ok, but my suggestion would be to only hire a vehicle for Pangong Tso or Tso Moriri, instead of getting the packaged tour. Since the normal rate for a two day excursion to Pangong Tso or Tso Moriri is 6-7k (rental for the taxi), which means even if you book luxury accommodation at Pangong Tso and/or at Tso Moriri, it wouldn’t cost more than 1200 a night and food isn’t all that costly in Ladakh.

Yes you can, but it will require a minimum of 3-4 days.

Yes, but if you intend to do trekking then it wouldn’t be a good idea.

Booking every thing in advance would come out to be costlier than haggling from prices once you are in Leh. However there is a certain peace of mind and comfort attached to booking every thing in advance.

Thanks Yogesh.

Just to clarify the cost mentioned is for the entire 8 day trip including food, travel, guide etc. (excluding food in Leh). So it's about 10K per pax if we do Pangong+Nubra+local sight seeing & 14K per pax if we do Tso Moriri+Nubra+Local Sightseeing (on the basis on 2 people traveling).

Is it possible to trek in Nubra valley? What palces would you suggest, we visit while in Nubra valley.

Which one would you suggest - Pangong or Tso Moriri. Both the places seem very interesting. I do want to camp near the lake & see sunrise & sunset, but 4K extra per person seems like a high price difference.

Going directly to Pangong Tso and staying overnight, seven hundred meters higher than Leh, is a problem even when fully acclimatised.
Try a switch : do Nubra first, it will give you better basic acclimatisation to Leh´s altitude. It will - at least - save you some headache.
There is a earlier thread here discussing the same problem , where an alternative night stay at around 3900-4000 was mentioned , do a search.

Are you sure it includes Nubra Valley as well? Because if it does then it is a good rate, considering a trip to Nubra would cost roughly 7-8k (vehicle rate not per person). I hope there are only two of you else this is on the higher side.

Not into trekking so can’t help with that

Well to tell you the truth there shouldn’t be any difference since Tso Moriri & Tso Kar trip costs nearly the same as Pangong Tso, unless it involves two night stays.
