Is Manali-Leh Road open in November? Please help

Hi friends!

Please tell us whether it is a folly decision to plan a trip via Manali-Leh road in month of November (5th-25th)? Is it open for travel? Also ne info on weather forecast for snowfall this year?? I know this is too much of clairvoyance am expectin out of u but this will help us a great deal....
We are group of four who will be travelling essentially thruout by road(2-wheelers) and our destinations are as follows:

Delhi-Manali-Leh
Leh-Khardung La, Nubra Valley
Leh-Pongong-Tso Moriri
Leh-Lamayuru-Kargil
Srinagar

waiting eagerly for an answer

After Oct.15th it's a crapshoot with Nov being in the long end of the odds due to Rhotang pass, the road to Srinagar will however be open and you can go up that way.

Hi

I just went to Leh in a SUV. I took the route as follows

Delhi to Manali (via Chandigarh) - Super smooth Roads
Manali to Rohtang - Fair, asphalt in many places
Rohtang to Keylong - No road, unpaved 60% of the time
Keylong to Jispa - absolute horror, its like driving in a rocky path & making your own road
Jispa to Sarchu - Same as above, but add high cliff's & teetering drops to the mix
Sarchu to Pang - Fair roads
Pang to Karu - Mostly OK roads, but some scary heights approaching the Tang Lang La pass
Karu to Leh - Super smooth paved roads

November may be quite dangerous, because the wind will be freezing, specially on motorbikes. Best to ask some army types who are stationed there. The truckers that we met on the road said that the army closes the rohtang pass by the middle of october.

hope this helps
kami

Manali to leh is a pretty rough trip. a jeep dude told me that the government offically closes the road sep 15 but jeeps and the like(the big 4x4s) will do the trip as long as the road is clear, any time of the year as long as there is no snow. I just got to leh yesterday from manali and its october 4th.

Hi....one more Q

Hi Nicholas!

thanx for this piece of info......cud u temme one thing that by closing down the roads one means pullin up the barricades.....or just leaving it on the discretion on traveller whether to take it or not........in second case i am ready to take some calculated risk!

hoping to hear soon

its left to the discretion of the traveller...
I was able to to go to Rohtang in beginning of December..
There is a small bridge enroute rohatng.. The army guys remove this bridge (should be a detachable iron bridge) once the road is officially declared closed... All the vehicles then leave the main road and move on the river/stream bed for some distance to reach the other side of the bridge..

But I would say its risky to venture into the road beyond rohtang once its closed.. You may not find any help in case of a break down.. In a normal season, you always have the option to load your bike on the trucks that ply on the road..

I just wonder if you can even cross over the next pass after rohtang.. it suppose to get freezing after that.. i heard there are no camps as well during that time in btwn during that times.. indeed its quite true - cuz its just not snow its whole flood of white wash ..
