Inner line permit for Tso Kar

Hello All,

do I need an inner line permit to go from Manali Leh Hway to Tso Kar? I will camp at Tso Kar and return to Manali Leh hway next day. I'm coming from Manali direction so I won't be able to get a permit. I know I need a permit for Tso Moriri, but I won't be going that far. Is there any checkpoints between M-L hway and Tso Kar??
Cheers

I seem to remember that was asked in another new thread earlier today. Can't remember which one though.

People will not post to both in the same day!

Err just checked .... You started the other thread!!!!

The Olizane map shows no checkpoint , or restricted area sign.
Avid would be the one to know , I miss him here.

The Checkposts are at Korzok and Mahe Bridge meaning ONLY Tso Moriri requires a permit which is ONLY obtainable at Leh

Yogesh Sarkar has already answered this in this thread.

No Permit is reqd for Tso Kar AFAIK

Thanks for that Mark, shame to hear about Tso Kar, I was originally intending to camp on the plains, but that would mean carrying all my water from Pang - I might just do this now....

Well there is a good place for camping at the most southern part of the lake, it was about a two hours walk from the main camp. It's not official, but as long as you keep a low profile I don't think anybody cares. Only few people stay there. There are even some small wells, but you have to look for it or buy some water at the official camp.

Yes no problem at all. "Easy" trip( as far as cycling at 4500 metres is easy). Just follow the track leading from the main camp south along the lake. On your bike it shouldnt be more than two or three hours from the Leh Manali road( if i remember well).
From there you could also make a trip to the nearby village of Nuruchan which away from the lake on the track to Korzok. After the village there is another camping area(probably nobody there )Some villagers might show up to collect a small camping fee. Don't remember the road conditions after Nuruchan. have a great trip. If you send me your emaildress i can send you some Tso kar pics.
