Help planning a Ladakh trip

Hi all. I'm travelling to Ladakh in August and am planning on spending 10 days there altogether. My question is how best to use this time. I don't want to go on a multi-day trek (I need to relax on this trip too) but would like to spend some time staying out of Leh. Current thinking is to spend, say, 6-7 days based in Leh and making day trips / walks out of town, and then 3-4 days staying somewhere else, perhaps in the Nubra Valley. Does this sound sensible ? Are there enough things to see and do in and around Leh to take up 6-7 days ? Where would you recommend choosing as a second centre - Diskit, Hunder or somewhere other than Nubra ? Very grateful for all your thoughts ?

Spending 6-7 days in Leh is fine, I think. It varies per person. Some people may find they've had it after a couple of days already, but there's a lot to see in and around Leh. Plenty of monasteries in the surroundings that you can visit on day trips. Thikse, Stakna, Hemis, Stok, Spituk, Phyang, Shey and so on.

Also Nubra in 3-4 days is fine too. I did that too. I went by landcruiser to Nubra. We stayed in a different village each night. Hunder, Diskit, Sumur. It turned out this was all included in our Nubra trip. Our driver took us from one village to the next and for sightseeing monasteries in the valley too.

Alternatively you could travel around a bit in the Indus valley and go a bit further from Leh. For instance to Likir, Alchi, and such. But perhaps you plan to do that on day trips from Leh. That's a bit longer ride though. When planning to travel around from village to village, be aware that finding transport may be tricky. Catching a bus is less obvious as it sounds and taxis only operate from Leh. We found that out along the way. So we had to hussle rides from the guest house landlord or drivers of tourist groups who were on a day off. Come to think of it, also exchange all money you will need in Leh! In theory you can't exchange money outside of Leh. Again we found out the hard way and had to hussle again

6-7 days are going to be too less, there are plenty of places to visit in Ladakh. Also you might want to add Pangong Tso or Tso Moriri to your list, they are must visit for any traveler.
