Guest house recommendation in Leh?

I am looking for some comfortable (e.g. with hot water, sufficient blankets) lodging in Leh early August. Any recommendations?

My travel book suggest the following:
- Dorje Guesthouse
- Indus Guest House
- Julay Guest House
- Glacier View
- Oriental Guest House
- Asia Guest House
- Jigmet Guest House
- Padma Guest House

Your experiences and insights are appreciated!

Hello there,

I would suggest you Khan Manzil as the best of many, its cheap and it has all the facilities like Internet, Hotwater etc.

Khan Manzil is right behind Jamma Masjid lane, just ask for Jamma Masjid [Mosque] for Shia Muslims, once you reach there Khan Manzil is right behind that Mosque.

My fav was butler service

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I have reserved a room at Khan Manzil and will post my review of the guest house when I return next week. I appreciate the tip.

Mjdgard

Most foreigner prefer to stay in Changspa Area of Leh town.

Chances of meeting travel partners is more. You will have more variety of food in this area.

Good places to stay are Oriental Guest House & Wisdom Holiday Home.
have stayed in both.

Dolma Guest house at fort road very close to the main market. I liked it as it was easy to access the restaurants/transport/ATM. More suggestions here
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

Thank you!

I tried to get in contact with Dolma Guest but I could not find their website. Since I fly to Leh the day I arrive in India I won't be able to call them in India.

But I guess I need my accommodation before I get there, right? Any ideas how I can get in contact with them? thanks

Never booked a place in advance in leh . You take a taxi from the airport .Go to fort road and then check out the 2-3 guest houses there and their prices . Take the one which suits you

In august I checked a lot of Guest Houses in Leh.
This is my rating:
Atisha G.H.: very suggestable, room in 2nd floor are very clean, big and bright (400/450 Rps), room in 1st floor are cheaper (300 Rp), clean but smaller and not sunny. It's near the Indus G.H., just follow the footpath. I stayed there several days.
Julay G.H.: other very good accomodation, quiet, same price like Atisha, little garden.
Indus G.H.: I didn't like it at all, quite expensive and absolutely not clean.
Dolma G.H.: clean room but small, not sunny and expensive. Good garden but I think there are lots of better accomodation (Atisha first).
Seven Seas G.H.: good accomodation, quiet, cheaper (350 Rps), new building, nice and big garden, suggestable although not close to the town-centre.

If anyone would like to spend some relaxing days near Leh, I suggest the Phyang village, really nice, clean and quiet place only 1h by bus westwards from Leh. There is only 1 G.H. (350 Rps with bath, 250 Rps with common bath), absoluterly clean and run by a very friendly man. Hidden North is the name.
