Gear and clothing for Leh in July?

I'll be in the south of India for business in July and am thinking of taking a week afterwards to vist Leh and environs.
I'll probably have a regular suitcase, laptop and even a suit with me. I plan on going overnight to the Nubra Valley by taxi, and some other day trips from Leh.

I am flying into and out of Leh from Delhi, and I need some advice on clothes, packs and sleeping bags?

Will I need a pack and sleeping bag, or can I toss my suitcase in the transport, and get blankets at guesthouses? I'll have a shell, sweaters and good walking shoes to wear.

Maybe I should leave the suitcase and laptop at my Delhi hotel and just take a small pack?

Thanks,

Hal

Daypack will serve you well , plenty of blankets in the guesthouses.A liner is a nice luxury. You´ll probably be surprised how warm it is daytime. Good sunblock : indispensable. You could throw in a pair of good socks for the first nights , peripheral circulation is really low as you acclimatize.

Your lappie will be fine in Leh , but don´t fire it up anywhere high , hard drives start to crash at an alarming rate above 4000 - warranty says 3000.

Hal,

Go with a smaller pack..if your hotel in Delhi is reliable! we stayed at the Padma Guest house on Library Road(LEH)...it was squeaky clean and had all the amenities one could hope and wish for!

As far as the clothes are concerned it gets pretty chilly even in July...depends on the kind of temperatures you are normally used to. We felt quite cold especially towards the evening.

Hope you have a great trip!

Coming from Toronto I´d say we have about the same expectations... I start to use wool socks with my sandals in September in Leh.

You're right. I wear shorts and Birkenstocks until about November in Toronto.

I think a sweater or fleece with layers underneath and a shell on top should do me fine.

I'm thinking about getting a wheeled travel pack with detachable daypack from MEC. I like the idea of being able to throw it on my back if I have to wander around for a bit.

Day pack means both hands free and better balance , there are some situations where you will appreciate this , walking around the small perched gompa above Leh for example.
