Flying to Leh

Hi,
To all that already took a flight to Leh:
which side of a plane is it best to seat? To get the best view of the mt. peaks (eg. Kun, and Nun).
Thanks.

I have not taken a flight, but a look at the map suggests:

Flying from Delhi, Jammu or Chandigarh you would be best to sit on the left.

Flying from Srinagar depends on the flight path, as the crow flies Mt. Kun is directly below with Mt. Nun to the right, but it depends on the flight path.

Hi!

I've done the flight and I'm not sure it really matters - I've had both views - sat on the right side for both flights. If it's a clear day and your flying from Delhi you may get a view of the Garwhala Himalaya - Nanda Devi, Trisul and co - sitting on the right hand side. The staff at check-in for Jet airways said she thought that was the best views.
Unfortunately that part of the Himalaya was totally covered in cloud but once out of the cloud the views were gob-smacking.
On the other side of the plane, if you are really, really lucky you can apparently see Nanga Parbat and if the mountain gods are really in a good mood - K2 (this is what the locals said). I may have seen Nanga Parbat but K2 was certainly not visible. I looked for the Nun-Kun massive but couldn't spot it. The view from this side was equally amazing anyway.
So, either way I wouldn't panic too much!
The flight path to/from Delhi is a little odd - it heads out to Kargil and then cuts back.
Just be prepared to be told to stop taking photos when you start pointing the camera - for some odd reason it's illegal!
(I understand not taking pix of Leh airport but the mountains - c'mon!).
Also when landing and taking off from Leh - be prepared for some stomach churning fun as the plane banks back and forth.
Please be wary of the altitude when landing at Leh - my head felt like it was going to fall off!

Cheers

RTP

PS Yes, I know the above is an old post - but this is for anyone else taking the Delhi - Leh flight!
