First time in Leh...

This is probably a dumb question... but we are going to Leh for the first time... Is it necessary to have a guide for a 4-day trek... I mean is it possible to do it on our own???

Do you have any particular trek in mind? Whether you need a guide or not depends on your experience, the route and the difficulty of the trek.

Another factor is whether or not you plan to trek alone.

we are a group of 5... and we will be there for 5 full days... I know its very less time.. but thats the only time we have... first we thought of Markha trek but it seems it cannot be done in 5 days. Can you please suggest the best one that can be completed in 5 days.

I recommend this thread (a very nice writeup by solo_trekker): Ladakh in 5 Days...???!!! (Or 6 or 7 or 10 or 15...!!!)

But its more of a trip, than a trek. 4-5 days is too short, as you may have already realized, for a good trek.

This thread on the other hand, has some recommendations for short treks: Trek options: 4-5 day trek in Ladakh?
