Dharamshala, how to reach

Hi all
This is my first post, so please excuse me if this question has been asked and replied to earlier. How can we reach Dharamshala from New Delhi. Are any good buses available (non video buses). How many hours does it take? Or if a private car is hired (the fare can be split between our group), how much would it cost? We do not want to be ripped off by the car guys.

You are right, this question has been asked and replied to heaps of times earlier!!

Nevertheless, here goes : You should take an overnight train from Delhi to Pathankot and then switch over to the narrow gauge railway which passes through the beautiful Kangra valley, from Pathankot to Kangra. From Kangra Dharamsala is approx. 35 kms. by road.

Though the rail journey from Pathankot to Kangra is time consuming, its certainly worth it!! The option of taking a taxi from P'kot to D'sala also exists, and its faster. I do not know the current taxi tariff, but I think a Taxi from P'kot to D'sala (max. 4 passengers) will cost you Rs.1200/- or so.
