Current road condition from Manali to Leh

I will be travelling with 3 of my friends from 13th July for 10-12 days and would be driving be my personal car Swift Diesel and would be taking the Manali Leh route. I would like to know about the road conditions and what to avoid and all the help I can get. Any suggestion or advice would be more than welcome.

hi gurpreet,

I just came back from manali leh route, the roads are pretty bad at most of the manali leh route. In between at few place the roads are ok...but most of the journey is pretty bumpy. Specially after keylong to darcha and zingzing bar. Even at sarchu roads are pretty bad. After Pang camp it was slighty better...

Well, best of luck for your journey..

Riding a swift into himaplayas??? Great. Buttttttt, you should be prepared to take the hits since Swift has very low ground clearance. Also, poor angle of attack means your bumper will be mauled, and I can assure you of that. Your bumper, most likely, will not come back in one piece. I beleive you can do this route in Swift but you should trust your machine and not be the one who miss a heart beat just because a stone hits your underchassis. You should be willing to take the beating. Make sure that you know your underchassis configuration perfectly well so as to chose where to take the hit. There will be many such ocassions. Engine sump and petrol tank are the two areas to be protected... come what may, and thats why you should preciesely know their locations to chose your point-of-hit. During nallah crossing, better that everybody gets down and only driver drives through to improve ground clearance and reduce the damage to underchassis. In the process, your friends will end up walking knee deep into nallahs and they are going to curse you.... thats part of fun. I have gone through this melody with my family in Esteem 4 years ago.... Swift scores poor over Esteem on ground clearance department.

Last year, one of my friend from Goa tried the same thing in Swift. He returned from Rohtang pass because of worries related with "wear & tear".

Let us understand that if you are cautious, these machines can take the beating. Only if you start crying with each small hit, I think you would be gaping into sky for the help and cursing yourself why you decided to take up the trip in the first place. Game????

Its fun my friend.... go go go.
