We are looking for 2 partners for Delhi - Manali - Leh - Kargil - Srinagar - Delhi trip spread over 12 to 13 days.
We (my wife, I & another guy I met on this forum) have finally decided to hire a private passing Qualis for the entire Delhi-Manali-Leh-Kargil-Srinagar-Delhi trip covering this over a period of about 12 to 13 days.
The owner of the vehicle is the driver himself.
A friend of mine just did the leh trip with him, with absouletely no problems of any nature whatsoever.
The rate is 2500 Rs per day for hiring of taxi (qualis) + toll + drivers food.
i.e total of 2500 X 12 days = Rs 30,000
Divided by 5 ppl i,e 6000 Rs per head.
Rs 6000 per head towards transportation cost for a leh trip that too in a private car, for the entire trip is a steal.
Accomodation + food & misc expenses as actuals, or as per whatever you would like to spend.
You can stay & eat in the choice of your hotel.
We plan to start journey from Delhi anywhere between 22 to 30 June, as soon as we are able to find partners.
Itinerary can be discussed at length, once partners are thru.

Hi Ashish,
I am planning to visit Ladakh in October and would love to hear from you about how your trip with the private hire Qualis went. Will you please give an update and also possibly contacts for this person at Delhi who does this trip. I am quite interested in this idea. Will you also please say if you had any problems getting to any of the inner line areas like Nubra, Tso Moriri or Pangong Tso because of going in a private car.
Many Thanks,
Neeleem.

Sounds like too much time in the car -- 6 to 12 hours a day in the car every day on bad roads. Is that your idea of a good time on vacation? Also, please search for Vistet's advice elsewhere on this forum about going up to high altitude too fast. Although many people have no problem, some do, and on the route you propose, serious altitude problems among some of your group are not unlikely.
@crazycub, not at all advisable, such a long and hectic day in the beginning of your journey when you don't know how your body responds to high altitude. Jispa to Leh itself a big ask specially with the uncertainities concerned in the high passes all around 5000 mtrs. You then trying to draw an ambitious plan to go to Nubra, so you almost plan to cross Khardungla after dark it seems. Are you self driving, in that case as NonIndianResident says you are taking a high risk. Are you hiring a cab, in that case driver may simply refuse your plan firstly because outside ladakh cabs are not allowed to go beyond Leh and secondly, even if you arrange a private number cabs, the driver would surely be exhausted and that's again a big risk.
If you can't get more leave, there is always a second time but stretching beyond limit in such roads would be fatal. In my 2003 trip, I remember got stuck just below Changla while returning from Pangong Tso for almost 8 hours as 2 wheels of our car got punctured and we finally requested a spare wheel from another car (qualis) that was going to Pangong but he only gave the wheel while coming back, so we waited standing there stuck till the time the car finished its Pangong trip. Think if this would have happened after sundown and we have to wait at freezing 17k/18K height for whole night. You never know where situation could drag you in. So keep it relaxed, flexible and most importantly don't try to rush through.

A stay in each of Nubra and Spangmik is definitely worth and make the trip much more enjoyable. Both the routes are scenic and demands many photostops. Road around passes usually would be a bit rough though Khardungla (between Leh-Nubra) is taken care of by BRO and would maintained for traffic most of the times. Changla is bit more rough and little scary to me atleast but you feel it worth once you reach pangong. Similar Threads
