Which route are you taking? Chiling - Karsha is the Chadar route, over the frozen Zanskar river in the heart of winter. But in September..?

you can only go to chilling thru your private car or hired Cab (Rs 500/-)and its a good rafting place if you do not want to go Zanskar valley.

As far as I know, the first part from Chilling to Karsha is a narrow gorge with steep walls of rock on either side of the river. When people walk over the frozen river, they only climb up if the ice is too thin or dangerous in places, but there is no trail above.
The second part from Hanamur onwards can be done on foot. The Zanskar valley is wide from this place onwards to Padum. On one side there's a road, on the other side a hiking trail. The Zanskar river flows towards Chilling, so you certainly can't raft towards Karsha. Maybe the other way, I don't know if this is done. You can hike from Lamayuru to Karsha. This is a regular trekking route. Takes about 10 days. |

Hi,
Does that mean I can skip rafting at Chilling and try to do a one day rafting experience in Karsha instead? Better views? |

I have no experience with rafting. I've seen cars with boats near Chilling, but maybe they go rafting in the Indus.

Quote:
1. Chilling - Nimoo (Zanskar river) 2. Phey-Nimoo (Indus river) What I think is, usually the long duration expeditions start at Karsha. |
