Chardham and Manli- Leh
Chardham and Manli- Leh
Me and my friend are planning to do some traveling in Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh late July / August 2009. We have around 45 days. or more if needed. We start from Delhi on July 19.
We intend to do Chardham track and then travel to Leh from Manali. We plan to stick to public transport but is open to any good offer.
We would ideally want to finish the Chardham part in two to three weeks. Within this time we want to travel the four dhams and then Gaumukh, tapovan etc and also valley of flowers.
We intend to finish the first part in Haridwar, catch a bus to Manali, chill for couple of days and then head to Leh via road. Spend a week in Leh and then if possible vist Spiti valley on the way back.
Experienced travelers kindly provide any suggestions/ advise you may have.
Also if there are any other travelers in these parts during these times, may be meet up?

Instead of going through Haridwar, you may go to Himachal via Dehradun. A more scenic journey.
Or you may end Chardham by visiting Yamunotri at last and then going to Himachal via Chakrata. Still more scenic journey.

Delhiwala: Thanks, I had almost given up hope in India mike.
Your Idea is great. We really want to avoid the plains. We were planning to go to Manali from Haridwar using the HRTC bus. The bus from Dehradoon is also going via Chandigarh. Is there any way of avoiding Chandigarh? (Nothing personal, just want to stick to the hills)Could you please suggest any possible route and you reckon we would get public transport? Some delay is fine but we do not want to spend more than 2 days on the journey.
We want to do the dhams from Left to right. So the option from Yamunotri would be difficult. But that looks like the best route on the map. Are you talkikg via Rohra, Rampur etc?
