Unfortunate Rahul, hope things are stable now and whoever got hurt will get well soon. I am sure you guys would be able to make Chadar if not in 2012, in 2013 for sure.

Would you be able to share your plans and itnerary that you have made for this in my email . I sent you a Personal Message in IM with my email id.

Just would like to read if any day in future I could manage

Thanks NIR for pointing this out, I haven't noticed actually that I could sent a PM to Rahul. I have done that now with my email.

Bad weather in the context of the Chaddar trek is too warm . Ten below at night would be warmer than normal ( it was colder when I left Leh in end-November last year) , and itīs still just above the freezing point daytime. This is bad news when you wait for good solid ice to walk on. I would hope for a cold winter , and pick a full moon week to get the extra advantage of being able to do tricky passages just before dawn, for better ice.

Havenīt heard of any major snowfall - but Srinagar-Leh highway has just closed.

Newspapers reporting it colder than usual atleast in Kashmir Valley as the school goes for early winter vacation. Hope it would be cold enough for feeding water for rest of the year and ofcourse for a solid ice to walk on during Chaddar trek.

As usual you get conflicting info on Leh temperatures on the web - but the lowest ( accuweather ) shown right now is -18 : hardly an extreme , about the same as when I left Leh last time.Daytime temperatures around the zero mark. Maybe Iīll get around to bring a proper thermometer and make a comparison over some time , next time around.

I've been going for walks in the midday in a single shirt or a light sweater. It has been very sunny and warm lately, though of course -10 to -15C at night. But it is still early Dec, which is never very cold in Ladakh anyway, and doesn't really tell you anything about Chadar conditions in Jan and Feb. For your Chadar ambitions, you should hope it gets cold soon and stays cold; for my personal comfort, I hope it stays sunny and warm like this!

A western disturbance prevails in the region and hope this condition would be improved in next couple of days.
