Hello folks...
I'll be reaching leh by 12th or so this month...
We are 4 people going biking from Ludhiana-Manali-Leh and further do sightseeing there.
My query was....
I was just anticipating if we could take right from Upshi before reaching Leh to go all the way to TsoMoriri...will it be Ok...How much distance will it be inside...as there wont be any petrol available....so going TsoMoriri...comin back to Leh...will it be feasible...
(provided I get permits done before hand)
Further...how abt road condtns to TsoMoriri...
and Accomodations facilities(tents) there???
Waiting for replies...
thanks in advance...

Doesn’t make sense, if you are coming from Manali then there is no need to go to Upshi! Just take the diversion from Debring and head towards Tso Kar and from there you can go to Mahe Bridge and then to Tso Moriri.

Of course this is only possible if you can arrange for the permits beforehand, else you won’t be allowed beyond Mahe Bridge.

utopian: If you are taking the route from Manali > Keylong > Darcha > Pang

I would suggest you to take atleast 10 litres of extra fuel first
Second take a diversion from Debring > ThukJe > PolokongaLa pass > Puga > Korzok
  • This diversion would take another 200+ kms

On the way back take this route

> Mahe > Chumathang > Upshi > Leh

Note: Fuel would be available at Upshi after the first check post. They usually donot give to outsiders.

Here is the map, it would be usefull

thanks a lot yogesh n FaiyazSultan for your valuable advice and clearing up my queries...
@gurpreet...hi we'r actually biking...probably v can meet up up there in leh if possible...

if anybody has been there recently...could you please put some light on road conditions of Debring-Korzok and Chumathang-Upshi route...
Esp. biking through Chumathang, are there any specific problems considering it to be less visited...

FaiyazSultan...will 10 liters be enough for whole of journey ie Debring-Korzok and back via chumathang...considering pulsar or enfield...and
is it possible to drive down to Korzok with pillon??

are there accomodation facilities(tents) at tsoMoriri or for that matter at Korzok...what are approx. costs for that???

Finally, considering your experiences..guys whether its better to do tsoMoriri first...or should we go about it while returning from Leh...considering acclimatization issues n other factors....

Well there are Low Bufget accomdation avvailable at Korzok, one Opt for a home stay there. Ithink the Cost would be some around 300 Bucks.
all Visitin Tso - Mori ion end Makes all alot more sense , one for Acclimitzation & secondaly u dont have to go back to Leh Again. The Road From Upshi to Nahe Bride is awesome & well Metalled. but the Road From Mahe upto Tso - Mori is average. also there is sand Croosing of about 100 Mtrs near Thalsang Karu.

On way back from Tso mori, one can take a turn from Puga Sumdo village for Debring.on the way there are Sand dunes & Hot Water Springs befoe the Climb for Polo Kang La. but the road is completely Inmetalled Form Korzok to Debring.

I think 20 Ltrs would be good enough Fuel for this circuit. rest not very sure on this

Utopian riding condition for majority of the journey is good, barring last 30kms to Korzok, Debring - Tso Kar - Mahe stretch and a short stretch before Chumathang.

Korzok has a tent cluster, guest house and home stay facilities, so don't worry too much.

To do this stretch, you need enough petrol for ~700kms i.e. 5 liters for Pulsars and 10-15liters for Enfield (350). Unless of course their mileage drops by huge margin, in which case you can purchase petrol in black (would cost roughly 100bucks a liter).

..
Current Suituation: The road conditions from Debring to Korzok is all broken roads, few strecths for last 10 kilometers to Korzok is worst than before. Couple of water crossings [Only late afternoon hours]

Korzok has ITBP tent house and guest house, you require reservations done from Delhi or Manali. Couple of Local tents are also placed few kilometers after Tso Kar for Rs. 50 per person.

If you are doing this strectch from Leh, you need to have minimum of 5 litres of fuel on a Pulsar and atleast 7 - 10 litres of fuel for an enfield. The entire round trip would be less than 650 kilometers but please assume worst case scenarios where you may not come back from the same route and add another 75 kilometers from the other way.

If you run out of fuel by any chance, please provide your identity proof to ITBP and you could get extra few litres of fuel for Rs. 56 / Lt

You could also buy petrol in black from local tent houses for Rs. 80 a litre.
