Smile Biking Delhi-Manali-Leh - June 14 - June 22

Dear All

I intend to Bike Delhi - Manali - Leh starting June 14 and ending June 22. I will be travelling on 112 CC bike (Bajaj Caliber Croma) which is in good condition. Intend to travel to below places in Leh:

1. Pangong Lake
2. Kardung-La
3. Nubra Valley
4. Gurudawara Pathar Sahib

I intend to come back to Delhi via Kargil-Srinagar-Jammu but I may also chose to come back via Leh-Manali road if situation there demands.

Not sure if I can cover all of the above in this short timespan but first 2 are on top priority. Will not be in a position to stretch the timeframe more since I could not get more leaves.

Need few suggestions from you guys:
1. Will I be able to have the above plan executed in specified timeframe ? Or will this be too tiring...

2. Is there any specific obstacle I may face while travelling or during the route anywhere or while in leh?

Also,if anybody wishes to travel on his/her bike during the same timeframe and route, pls. let me know.

Regards,

1. leh-pangong-leh will take one full day

2. khardung-la is on the way to nubra valley. where do you want to go in nubra valley? accordingly it will take one or max 2 days.

3. gurdwara pathar sahib is just 30 mins to 1 hr out of leh on the road to alchi/lamayuru/kargil. if you are returning through the srinagar route you can do it in the return journey.

4. for pangong and khardung-la/nubra you will need a permit, which can easily be obtained in leh. your hotel or any travel agent can get it for you for 100 to 150 rupees. you can do it yourself too.... but that will waste some time from your precious vacation time.

Hi:
As you have said, there would be 9 days on your disposal. Out of which 4 days would be spent in doing, to and fro, journey, ofcourse, very tight. The remaining 5 days would be more than sufficient to visit the place you have planned. All is well, but going alone to ladakh is not advisable. consider this point very seriouly. I do not intend to discourage you rather, I want you to consider other aspects as well before going there.
You may check out the following blog. It may be of some help for you.
Wishing you all the best.

On a motorcycle it is best to do it on two days, Chang La would be the biggest test of your bike, so make sure she is 100% before you attempt it.

Nayan,
Aim to visit both Khardung-La via Nubra valley and Pangong. But if I had to make a choice (due to time contraint), Pangong will be on top...

Yogesh,
Thanks for suggestion...
Will be covering Pangong in 2 days. Is there overnight accomodation available in PANGONG. How far is it from Tangste ?

Also, can you advise which route should I prefer while returning from LEH. I will be starting from LEH on June 20 (0700 hrs.) and want to be in Delhi by June 22...

Thank you guys...

Plenty of accommodation options in Tangste, eco huts at Lukung and a hotel and home run guest houses in Spangmik.

Come back via the Srinagar route, though it is a bit longer and Srinagar - Jammu is nothing to talk about, its gives appropriate rest to the bike after the hard ride.
