Anybody for sharing trips in Ladakh in Oct 08
I'm planning to visit Ladakh in the second week of October (not the best time I know). But is anybody from here in Ladakh at that time and interested in sharing trips to areas like Suru, Zanskar, Pangong, Nubra, Tso Moriri etc.

Hey Neeleem,
I'll be travelling to Ladakh during the week of Oct 13th, and will be trakking there for about a week. I have just started preparing my itinerary and started to look for places in Ladakh. Good thing i found this site. Very informative ![]() May be we can exchange notes and share information. Have you decided on the dates when you would be arriving in Leh? rAj'. |

The Manali-Leh route is a bit iffy at that time however there is a chance that it might still be open. I am still contemplating whether to take my chances for it or to book a flight from Delhi thus saving me precious time (which I can maybe use to visit other places in Ladakh). As far as the Inner Line Permit is concerned, I think it can be obtained by going to the DC's office with proof of identity and a few pp size photos. Not sure what RAP is. Quote:
I might be going there around the 11th/12th depending on whether I risk the Manali-Leh route or fly from Delhi. My trip is still not finaliased but the intentions are there and planning is on. I know you are planning to trek. I would have loved to do that but unfortunately I am still recovering from a minor knee surgery (sports injury), so may not be in good enough shape for a trek. However that does not stop us from exchanging info as you suggested. What area are you planning to trek in? Here's a discussion on my plans: Click here... |

Hi Neeleem,
I might be flying into Leh too during that week as against driving up to there, simply to avoid fatigue and save some time. I havent decided on my trip route yet however would like to include Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri in my trekk tour. I am going to start a new thread to see if i can get some advise from fellow Mikers. I am just a bit concerned about the weather and accomodation while on trekk. Have you had a chance to crunch up the numbers yet, just to get a ball park figure on how much the Hotels etc will cost once you are in Leh? I am going to follow your other thread regularly to pick up valuable information. Good luck with your plans and lets stay in touch. rAj'. Quote:

Hi rAj,
Good to hear from you. I think for me as I am not going to be trekking, the major chunk of expenditure is going to be on paying for travel (if I can't get people to share taxis). From what I read, the accomodation side of things isn't too bad as accomodation in the remote areas outside Leh tend to be in small guest houses or with families which are simple, cheap and fairly basic. In Leh I believe there is a large variety of accomodation available and a budget of INR 800-1000 for a night should get something fairly decent. I think we might be just ok in mid october for roads staying open etc. It might be quite cold though. It'll surely be great to stay in touch and see how things go for us. Good luck to you. ![]() |

Hi, Neeleem,...
I have just started planning a 30 day journey in India,... I would love a week or maybe 10 days in Ladakh area, with several visits,... Although just started reading about the area but definately interested to join up with some others. I fly in on Mumbai Oct 5th and thought of taking about 10-12 days to get up to Delhi, or Manali and drive/fly frome there to Leh and beyond. So probably be there around 15th-17th of october. What have you come across in the meanwhile? any plans, visits you don't want to miss out? greetings J! |

Hi Neeleem,
We are also planning to visit Leh in October 08. But I am not sure about weather condition. Do you have any idea about the minimum temperature, rain fall, snow fall etc. I heard that July, August is the best time. Let us share the information. Regards, - Jds |
