thanx for the thanx...
the travelogue / itinerary plan / travel tips i had written was actually for someone from bangalore and i thought i'll share it here with everyone... and please don't bother with booking trips in advance for anything... during season time, every second shop in leh changes into a travel shop catering to the demand... rest assured, u'll get a much better deal if you check things out for yourself... cheers...! |

I was afraid so. I was in Leh 1998 and will return this year. I hope I will recognize it...

hey all...this is my first post
i've gone thru a lot of threads since morning abt leh-ladakh... i plan to do a trip starting 25th may(+/- 2 days),will start thru manali-leh-srinagar or vice versa.I plan to spend arnd 14-15 days on this trip. By all the posts i've gone thru i cud see that for visiting the more famous places like the lakes and the nubra valley, one has to hire taxis...the problem is i'll be travelling alone...so how do i visit all these places...do we some buses running or we can get to share a cab just like one does from manali to leh. Also if anyone is travelling at the same time...may be we can travel together...plz mail me at amitgyl@gmail.com |

You can reach most places by public transport. Even Nubra Valley. I'm not sure about the lakes, though.

The bus to Nubra valley leaves at 6.00 a.m. and you need to get a ticket the previous evening for sure - and that can only be handed over by the conductor of the very same bus, and not the bus stand guys...!
Soo, what do u do...? You wait and pray...! But relax, though most believe thatz the only bus, there's a private bus too, on the private bus stand half of the very same bus stand...! Hopefully, you won't have any problem there...! Do check this out for everything u wanna know...! Ladakh in 5 Days...???!!! (Or 6 or 7 or 10 or 15...!!!) Cheers...! |

Hey ppl,
Was planning to do Leh this May 25th the rough itinerary is below. Day 1) Mumbai - Srinagar Day 2) Srinagar - Kargil (Bus/ Shared Jeep) Day 3) Stopover at Lamayuru Day 4) Onwards to Leh Day 5) In Leh town and settle further trip with agent and ILP Day 6) Nubra Valley - O/n Diskit Day 7) Hunder and back to Leh Day 8) IN leh and its surrounding like Thiksey & Hemis etc. Day 9) Pangong Tso / Tso Moriri with an option off overnight at tent day 10) Buffer day day 11) Bus/jeep to Saruch Day 12) To Manali Day 13) To delhi back to bombay ! Well few things needed to clarify 1) Will it be possible to visit all the places mentioned at this time ? 2) Will it be easy to get fellow tourist for share jeeps trips to Nubra / Lakes & leh surroundings at this time? 3) Rafting will it be possible? Possible to get an idea on latest cost for travel for the trip? An approx budget one should estimate? Any other suggestions to visit in Leh or alter the plan. Currently we are two from Mumbai, if any one else is interested in joining g8t, more the merrier... Cheers Amar |

1) Will it be possible to visit all the places mentioned at this time ? Yes. Have just vistied these places last week except for saruch Manali. I guess manali leh route has opened now. Only thing is that u plan to do pangong ? or tso moriri? you would not be able to do both. Tso moriri in one day becomes really hectic. Pangong can be done in one day. 2) Will it be easy to get fellow tourist for share jeeps trips to Nubra / Lakes & leh surroundings at this time? Well it was not that easy for us. But the reason for that was that season had not started. But there are lot of places (eg. German Bakery, leh view restaurent etc.) where you can put up a note that you want to share and you can find people. You may find some notices already looking for sharing partners. Normally, most of the people find partners like this in the season. As season is picking up now, it should be easy. Also most of the travel agencies would help you in finding out. 2) Will it be easy to get fellow tourist for share jeeps trips to Nubra / Lakes & leh surroundings at this time?2) Will it be easy to get fellow tourist for share jeeps trips to Nubra / Lakes & leh surroundings at this time? All the cabbies in leh would be carrying a fixed rate tarrif for different places like nubra, pangong, thiksey etc. 10% discount on the rate is available almost all the time. if you negotiate well then 20% is also easy at this time of the year i.e. before mid june. Speak directly to cabbies(minus travel agencies) and on the longer routes u may get 30%. However, bear in mind that u'd need permits to go to pangong, nubra etc. enjoy your trip. Its an unbelievable experience. |

one more thing...i was thinking of leaving Leh and going to Tso-moriri spending the night and the next day reach Manali via More Plains – Pang – Sarchu – Darcha – Manali. Possible?
Also how do i go about doing that as i would not be booking the whole taxi? Should i spend the night else where and take a share jeep/bus? What options do i have? Cheers Amar |

Ladakh in 9 days
Solo Traveller - may I join the others in thanking you for a really informative posting. It was intended for a 5-day stay. I will have 9 full days, flying in and out, at the end of June (i.e. in 2 weeks)
The bit about the Bactrian camels sounds just amazing! What extra things would you recommend that I do with thouse extra days? (though don't say Kargil since I won't be able to go to that area - or really anywhere that's a bit off the beaten trail). A short trek maybe, but which one? (I hiked to 5000 meters in the Andes and doubt I'd be able to go much higher). Some more gompas/monasteries? Which ones? Also - any top tips for a guest-house in Leh (and elsewhere)? Somewhere clean and not-too-cold, pref. with private bathroom and warm water, rather than a backpacker doss-house... I assume that you sleep in tents on the treks - how cold will it get at nights? Thanks v much! Bones |
