How far is Jispa from Sarchu?
And how far is it from Keylang?
And How far is it from Baralacha La?
How good or bad is it to stay the night in Jispa instead of Sarchu,
on the way to Leh?

Hi,
Hi,
Sarchu is 106 kms apart from keylong .... and 33kms from Baralacha la,
Jispa is 21 kms from Keylong, the difference between Jispa and Sarchu is 85 kms ... so depending on where you traveling from Sarchu is the best option to stay to save on time ... however if one is interested in exploring around then Keylong is the best option with its monasteries, the palace at Gondla and the confluence at Tandi, Jispa is pretty with its setting by the riverside and a couple of guest houses and the Hotel Ibex, The next possible stay could be either at Darcha 11kms from Jispa, or Patseo 8kms from Darcha, both places have a rest house and a couple of guest houses which operate only during the season .... If you want to save time then ride on to Sarchu, if u wanna take it easy stay at Jispa/Keylong.
Cheers,
Dhananjay

Stok Kangri
Dear AvidTrekker,
I have been wondering about whether to go to Stok Kangri or not. When I look at pictures of it, I miss the orange landscape that is one of the main appealing features of Ladakh for me. But maybe on the first days, when you are lower, the landscape is orange, and only the last and highest days are gravel grey and snow white? Perhaps i shouldn't say it, but the Stok Kangri pictures remind me more of the Alps in Swiss than photos of eg the Alchi-Lamayuru trek.
I guess once we're there it's really impressive, but the photos don't entice me as much as some other (orange...) photos of Ladakh. Do I have the wrong impression?

Orange???
Dear neeltje,
I was seeing Stok Kangri trip photos just a few days ago. My friend had gone there last year. I'll ask him your orange question [tomorrow, he might be in bed now...]
MY impressions are mixed. Some of the Country was a little green. Then towards the top, it became slate grey. I did not see the orange. Maybe it happens at sunset??
Happy trekking!!

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
unfortunately, there seems to be no end to questions.
All my family is bugging me now 'cause according to them
August is a bad time cause it's raining all the time
and there will be landslides all over the place,
and we will surely be stuck if not buried to death!
my reservations are already made!
HELP!
by help i don't mean that you give me the actual picture,
just tell me with a lot of conviction that it is not going to rain
and if I am lucky i will never see a landslide on the way,
or at least be stuck because of one.

hi all!
Posting here after a long time!
Neeltje - the view from the top of a mountain is always great! A lot of people make the mistake of comparing the Himalayas especially Ladakh region, to the Alps. DON'T! It is completely different. Stok Kangri is does not require any technical climb etc. It is a trekking peak - You WALK to the top to get a great view. That is it! and the views are worth it IF you are FIT enough to attempt the summit.
Natasha - (Almost) everybody gets caught at the Rohtang pass jam! beyond that it is not bad. However the condition of the road will get your bladders going! :-)
Last week, the temperature in Leh had risen so suddenly that snow has melted too fast - creating a flood-like situation - which resulted in a few bridges being swept away. The Spituk bridge was damaged.
But I will still advise you to GOOOOOOO!!!! It is nice and sunny and beautiful and a lot of people here will agree with me in advising you to GO for it!

lastly, DO NOT go by the kilometers here - it doesn't matter! Think Time taken to travel between towns/ summer settlements etc.
Thanks, Mountaingirl.
Will call you in a few days for last minute assurances.
Will it rain a lot? Should I carry raincoats and stuff??
Talking about seconf and third week of August of course.

trip to ladakh
Quote:
Hi all,This is ajay from delhi and i would like to convey my sincere thanks to u as ur article has come at a very opportune time as i was planning to travel to ladakh during the end of july. I am travelling alone in my own car from delhi to manali and from there towards ladakh....if any one of u ppl plan to travel during that time then u r welcome to join me. I could accomodate 3 people and of course we could share the expenses ...i am also open to more travel tips ......to contact me call at 9810240307.....everyone is welcome
nathsha dont worry august would be fine..it wont rain much and even if does it gets claera up very soon..i was there in leh from 6 to 13 and it was raining all day on 7 and suddenly it was asbsolutely sunny on 7. then road to manali was closed on 8 and 9 but it opened soon on 10. so just go out there and enjoy..you will find lots of company in case you get stuck somewhere...but one4 advise do take travellers cheque..coz sbi atm is not working and the other atm of j& k bank runs out of cash every evening and you have to then come early next morning..so u have to wait for bank to fill cash then only you can take a taxi out soemwhere...and 10% disc is easily available on all taxi's plus if u bargain with him that you will take his taxi on all outings you might get more disc. take either qualis or scorpio and not maruti van in any case....
if u need any other info,..just post it..
