What the hell was the thinking behind razing that open air square next to the SBI ATM in Leh? It was the best spot in the whole town (sort of). Big disappointmment. I was looking forward to spending most of my time in Leh there...

wanted info..
Hi..
I had already made another thread but i ges, this one's more active.. so thot should post here.. i am plannin a trip to leh on 16th Nov '09.. I have 5 days for exploring the place(which are not going to be enough, i know) and would depart on the sixth day early in the morning.. My route would be from Srinagar to Leh by road(if the highway remains open in Nov).. If you can please guide me on: (1) cost of travelling from srinagar to leh; (2) how should i allot these 5 days given that i need to visit nubra valley and pangong tso by any means(5 days in Leh i.e.) (3) Accomodation expenses in Leh(i am a budget traveller)... (4) Cost of travelling in and around Leh... and anything else that you presume i need to know before going... looking forward to your reply... Thanks and regards, kaush |

Expect up to Rs 1500 for the jeep runs , and 600+ for buses . JKSTRC bus drivers are on strike since the last two months , which doesn´t hit the company too hard : they haven´t paid them for the last five ...

The best way to get from Srinagar to Leh, if the road is open, is by shared taxi.
That's pretty contradictory, to say that you are a budget traveller but you have only five days in Ladakh and you want to get to Panggong and Nubra in those five days. To get to either of those and back quickly, you almost have to hire your own taxi. For Nubra you could take a public bus or shared taxi one day and then back the next. Basically it's silly to try to do those in a five day visit to Ladakh, unless what you like to do is spend all your time on bad roads in an uncomfortable vehicle -- that's not how I like to spend my time in a new place, but it's true most Indian tourists seem to like to fill their entire time with horrible long road journeys. There are places in the Leh valley as beautiful as Nubra -- everything except the camels and the long rough road. |
