Air Deccan, Delhi - Leh

Hi guys, has anyone flown on this route? Have heard some pretty terrible things about Air Deccan but none about the Delhi - Leh flights so far. Am planning a trip to India this July and my friend and I want to spend about a week in Leh. The plan so far is to fly into Leh from Delhi, then take bus/jeep back.
Anybody know how much a seat on a shared jeep is from Leh to Manali nowadays, and how one can go about getting one of them? Alternatively we're considering the government bus. Has anyone taken it recently? Some of the prices I've found seem pretty outdated
We're travelling pretty budget, any recommendations are more than welcome! Thanks in advance.

to be precise air deccan is not the best in business...but still they are cheap and ply in large number of sectors...

the best way to travel with air deccan is to be mentaly prepared for the worst... 90% of time you will come out pleasantly surprised..

I have used Deccan 6-7 times...had no bad experience till date..infact will be boarding it again next month..

I haven't flown to Leh on Air Deccan, but just last weekend I had a ticket in hand to fly Delhi - Leh on Indian Airlines and when I went to the airport, after being shuffled between lines for 2 hours, they finally said, "Madam, this flight was pre-poned by a day. Your flight left yesterday." So I had to cancel the entire trip, get my money back and go home. So, just a word of warning, unless Air Deccan is flying this route 7 days a week, there is some possibility of the airline changing your flight DATE (not just time!), so it's best to re-confirm your flight on this route beforehand.

Good luck.

I haven't flown to Leh but few things to keep in mind. The airport at Leh is under Military control so commercial flights have very small window to land there (during morning hours). Because of that flights do get cancelled relatively frequently.

see the best way is to call Air deccan people 3-4 day in advance..and then maybe call and confirm with them every 24 hours..I do the same..

secondly..I had a case once when a flight was cancelled well in advance..so they called me up and asked me if I wanted a full refund or I can get the tickets on the flight either next or day before that (maybe they have a window) without any extra charge...(even though the prices of tickets were higher than mine on both days !!)..

In my opinion that is beacause they do not want people from abroad get the cheap prices for the Indians...
Well I have answered this in the thread you started..

WOW! This happened to me with Indan Airlines! I booked my ticket way back in February for this July and by chance I checked the reservation and found out that precisely the same thing happened. I booked it for Indian Airlines GSA in the US. I went into panic mode, almost changing my plans entirely. What made matters worse was the fact that the GSA's had chanegd in the US and I had ot hunt down the new office. I looked into Air Deccan whihc just started flying to Leh, but read storied of delayed and canceled flights. Furthermore, I could not book the ticke fomr the US. I finally found a business seat on Jet Airways and will use my Indian Airline return ticket for Leh-Delhi.

Nuruling the shared jeep prices are in the region of Rs. 1000-1500 without accomodations. The government bus used to charge Rs 525 per seat in 2005, I have taken it back from Leh to Manali. It stops in Keylong at night and you have to look for your accomodation there.
