9-10 days tour to ladakh help with the itinerary

Hi all, have been reading the posts here for quite sometime and just could not hold back from registering myself .... I with my husband am planning to go to the mighty ladakh in the end of august for 9-10 days .... we intend to take the manali -leh route ... so day 1 starts from manali ... can any one please suggest an itinereary ..... neither of us is an avid trekker so we just want to see around and probably do a river rafting session ... though from the earlier posts i cud gather that this duration would not be enuf for ladakh but still if u cud helf us out with the not to be missed places in 9-10 days .... thnx in advance

shveta manali to leh is total 472 km--
route is---manali rohtang pass(52km)--khoksar(19km)----tandi(38km)--keylong(9km)--darcha(28km)--barlachala(54km)--sarchu(30km)---pang(around 7okm)--tangla--upsi(125km)--leh---

tandi is a last petrol pump..
roahtang is around--13500ft hight.
barlachala--16500ft hight.
sarchu is around--14000ft hight
pang--15300ft hight
lalchungla--16600ft hight--
and tanglang--17500ft hight.

so at this hight you get AMS problem..

as good staying option are--keylong(tent and hotel+food)
darcha--(tent+guest house+food)
sarchu--(only tent +food)
pang--(only tent+food)
upsi--(tent+food+guest house)...

fot this route you need atleast 2 days or better you can complete in 3 days you will enjoy more..

If you traveling in a vehicle, learn a bit of mechanics at the basics and carry spare parts that fail often. For your health Carry Diamox to ward off altitude sickness. Places to see include Chang la Tso Moiri Lake, ladakh palace, many a monastries

for 9-10 days your plan should be-
1st day manali--sarchu
2nd day sarchu--leh
3rd day rest in leh nd arrange permit for pangong lake and nubra.
4th day visit pangong lake(round trip-360km) moov early at 7am ..
5th day visit kardungla(highest motorable road) and nubra-(round trip-340km) if you wish you can stay there at diskit.
6th or 7th day--visit local leh market and monastries...
7th or 8th day--enjoy rafting at chilling...
8th or 9th day---- you can plan your return trip..either from leh to manali
or
leh to srinagar--
and for altitude sickness please use diamox...
and drink water ...

Thank you all for the inputs ... vikram I would certainly not use SMS language again ..... we would take a flight back from leh to delhi so 8th and 9th day could also be spent in ladakh itself ..... any other places we could cover now that we have 2 more days ....

Its nice to visit ladakh.I m visiting ladakh on 1st june 2010 (by car frm Manali). I m going to visit Tso Moriri, Pangong, Nubra and Alchi. If u can spare time, do visit Tso moriri (around 240 km from Leh on the way to Manali) and Alchi (70 km frm Leh). I have not visited ladakh yet, but by reading blogs, i could understand the geography of the territory well. Good luck n share ur xperience once u visit.

shveta --if you have 2 more days then first better for you

enjoy manali leh trip cover in 3 days
1st day--manali-- keylong--(cover roahtang+khoksar)
2nd day-- keylong to sarchu---(cover darch+zing-zing bar+barlachala..
3rd day---sarchu leh--(cover pang+moore plains+upsi)

that will give you better chance to explore places with maximum sinic beauty of this route and will give you enough time to take photograph...this route is very nice..try to spend more time on this route...

also you can use your time exploring leh--(shanti stupa + leh palace + thiksey gompa + magenetic hill+ pathar sahib guridwara)

and in these 2 days you can visit tsomoreri leke(240km)

manali to keylong---you can get shared cabs from manali(charges around 200rs)

keylong to sarchu --- you can take morning bus from from keylong bus stand..

and from sarchu to leh-- you can take bus or shared cab(but there is no any bus stand at sarchu so you have find your own)
most likely you can get shared cab in season time(june to sep).

and for tsomoreri you can get shared cab from leh....

also, I have heard there is a wonderful road trip arranged from Hrishikesh/Haridwar to Leh which is more beautiful than the Manali to Leh road-trip ... is it true ? can you please give me some details about this road trip ?

Also, how can I book in advance the Hotels (or tents/guest houses) where I'll stay on my road-trip and also in Leh ?

best time to go to leh is june to oct and september is much better time to go.

rishikesh/haridwar--if you will arranged you trip from there then route will be rishikesh---dehradun--pontasahib(himachal)--shimla--kullu--mnali--leh--
means you can start your trip from rishikesh but route is same--
there is no any other route for leh from rishikesh..

and i dont think so that you need to book hotel and tent in advance--better you book hotel once you will be in leh...

what will be the approximate budget gor the whole Manali-Leh-Ladakh-Srinagar trip considering train journey and including car-fare, accomodation and food for a span of 7-10 days ?

kolkata to delhi train fare is--
sleeper class is 450rs rs per person
3rd a/c is rs 1120rs per person.
and delhi to manali ---bus fare is around 700rs(per person)-(volvo)-
and manali to leh bus fare is 1800rs per/person
or you can take shared cab from manali to leh--cost you 1500to 1800rs per person..

and leh to srinagar--will cost you--1500rs per person(shared cab)

and-if you will hire suv(scorpio,tavera,innova) for whole trip delhi to manli--leh --srinagar--jammu---delhi--will cost you around--10-12rs per kilometer---
total trip--delhi toleh--srinagar--delhi is around(3000km)


and manali to leh--srinagar--jammu--delhi trip need atleast--10 to 12 days--(7-10days are not enought for this trip)

accomodation-- is around minimum 500rs per/day (twin sharing)..

food--is around 250rs per day per/person...

that means total trip will cost you..around(minimum)---17000rs to 19000rs per/person.(delhi to manli to leh--srinagar--delhi) for 10to 12 days trip--including food+transport+accomodation---
