Tell Me about Manali
Tell Me about Manali
I have a trip planned for the end of June and want to get out of Delhi and head up into the mountains. In the past, I've run into travellers who have gone to Manali and liked it. What's it like? Are there mountain areas similar, or even better nearby? What's the draw to the area? And will it be raining like crazy in late June?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi Slum,
Todat itself I signed up as a member and this is my first letter.
Manali is one of my favorite hill stations in the himalayas and it is very beautiful if you take a few steps in and around the little town. visit rohtang pass, solang vaLLey, naggar, or sit beside the river beas, it is heavenly. you can also proceed to the breathtaking spiti, lahaul and even leh, that will be better in June, as Manali is nested on the windward side of the himalayas, you can experience some rain there in June, but once you cross Rohtang and get into the transhimalayas, it is dry.
Wishing you a happy journey.

I found Manali disappointing : full of noisy tourists (Indian in Manali and Israeli in Old Manali).
Vashisht (5 km up the Beas river) is better, especially when you stay in the old village and not on the main road.
