Sunshine Guest House Manali

-Location (city/area)-

Manali, Himachal Pradesh

-Phone/fax/email/website-

Phone: +91 (01901) 52320

-rates for rooms-

Rs. 300/night (approx €6.4/night)

-Amenities (hot shower, tv, etc)-

- Large Dressing Room
- Butler brings in hot water
- No TV, but quite apt for the fact that you're in Manali probably for the beauty of the natural surroundings & not to watch TV!

-Likes/Dislikes-

Likes:

- Old world 'colonial' feel & charm. Indeed the Hotel is some 64 yrs old if my memory serves right.
- Very few rooms so you feel like an exclusive guest
- Large, airy rooms
- Price for this exclusivity can't be beat!
- Butler makes great Paranthas & is always there for you
- Lovely balcony with great views to the mountains & garden below
- 10 min walk to 'The Mall' or downtown Manali & 5 mins to Old Manali.

Dislikes:

- Close to the main road going downtown. You hear the traffic quite clearly. The motorcycles are annoying. But very peaceful at night

I wish I could describe this lodging more accurately, but it did 'something' to me. Its not the most luxurious looking place from the inside, unlike the Mayflower which is just 2 mins down the road.Yet, the latter is atleast 4 times more expensive & doesn't have the 'natural' old world feel that this place does. You feel like you're living in your own home in Sunshine Guest House & to me thats the best part about it. 'Great atmosphere', is the best way I can sum it up.

Just wanted to add. I stayed here yesterday. It was a most fantastic guest house for a cheap price. Everything nice and utilitarian and it was not a tenth as noisy as I feared. Ofcourse, April end is not the peak season. At any rate, this would be my first choise. I wish the power plug in the room was working. Had to charge my batteries in the verandah.

I don't have contact details, however you don't need to book ahead. Just go. I stayed in a double bed room and the rent was 250Rs.

We've booked for 400 for next week - and our friends (Indian) are checked in from tonight onwards at the same rate.

Our feedback:

Beautiful location, fab rooms. The butler is really funny - gets very moody when you ask him anything and even a cup of coffee takes about an hour. A bit frustrating, but added to the overall charm of the place, in a strange way.

As for different treatment for Indian/non-Indian guests - we were the only non-Indians there at the time and we all got treated pretty much the same way (i.e being ignored most of the time).

Lovely place but ZERO customer service. You only meet the owner when you check in and to pay the bill. The poor butler has to do everything for everyone (no wonder he is so moody!)

We could hear all the noise coming from the room next door to us (large family staying there) but they left after the first 2 nights. Beds weren't the cleanest - we had no covers on our duvets, but our friends did. When we asked the butler about his he said they didnt have any clean ones, so he decides who gets them and we weren't the lucky ones

Despite all this, its a lovely place and the scenery is just unrivaled. Will stay there again - Yes. We moved to Dragon for the last night of our stay in Manali (after the owner at Sunshine told us we had to leave as our room was booked...but our friends still there and told us our room remained empty...??) - Dragon Guest House was perhaps slightly newer with better bathrooms, but lacked any atmosphere and was very noisy.
