Hi friends,

I am planning to visit Shimla & Manali in month of March 2010. I am looking for hotels in budget of INR 1400 to 1800 per day.

I have checked the HPTDC website "http://hptdc.gov.in/custsw/viewuser8_hot.asp?dest=073" for rates & I found that the rates are same for high season & low/off season. I think there should be discount on off season.

Please let me know how to get the discount in HPTDC hotels and alternatively you can suggest some good hotels for my honeymoon with good view of mountains/velly.

For Honeymoon try taking a quote for a Package Himachal deal from operators like makemytrip.com, Yatra.com,travelguru.com. You may get a good itinerary with transportation as well as sight seeing.

Smile

As per my view, the travel plans provided by tour operator are hectic & fancy. I want to pass the time in nature in very relaxing mood. So I thought to build my own travel plan.

Anyway thanks for your reply.

I have a plan to visit Shimla & Manali and nearby places on 10 days. My budget is appox. Rs. 35000.

We had toured Himachal Pradesh in Apr 2008.....that time almost every hotel was giving around 30% of disocunt.....although we didn't stay in HPTDC hotel, but I remember that I had enquired in one of their hotels in Kalpa and they were also offering some discounts.

Thanks.

Actually I think I should book the hotels, so I want to know the discounted price of hotels.

What are suggestions from IM members.... Should I book the hotels advance for tour in March???

There will be off season discount ranging between 20%-40% in HPTDC hotels. You can call up any of there offices for details.

If you are booking through internet, then they will charge on full amount basis (100% for first day, 50% for subsequent days)and discounts are adjusted at Hotel. There is an additional 10% service charge which will be collected at hotel.

As March is a low season, advance reservation is not really required. But if you are sure of your trip plan then its better to pre-book around 15 days-1 Month before.

I would suggest not to book in advance and try to take off season discount on spot.

Or in case you want to avoid the hassle, book in advance only for first 1-2 days and rest decide on spot.

Hardik, As per my experience, no need to book in advance. the only precaution that is required to be taken is " Reach your destination around 4-5 PM" and you will find bargains all around you. Himachal will be waiting for you in march.

Thanks Sri, Khak & Karnail for your help.

I have plan of 3 days (plus 1 day if required) at Shimla & nearby places. My 3 day itinerary is below. Please provide your suggestion on this itinerary and alternatively you can suggest me other itinerary.

Day-1 : Toy train ( Shivalik deluxe) from Kalka to Shimla. Pick up cab/bus to reach Fagu. Check in HPTDC hotel & after visit Kufri.

Day-2 : Pick up cab to visit nearby place of Shimla. These are places I like to visit Jakhoo Hill, Viceregal Lodge, The Glen, Annandale, Prospect Hill and Kamna Devi, Sankat Mochan, Tara Devi, Mashobra etc.

Day-3 : Checkout the hotel at Fagu. Move to Shimla by cab/bus. Check in HPTDC hotel "The holiday Home" then picks up HPTDC sightseeing tour "Shimla - Fagu - Matiana - Narkanda & back".

Day-4 : Check out hotel & pick up bus to move Manali.

My queries are
1) What kind of bus facilities is available between Shimla & Fagu? What are the charges for one-way cab from Shimla to Fagu? I don't want to spend too much on cab.

2) What is transport facilities between Fagu & Kufri? What are the charges?

3) Can I able to cover above places on day-2 with cab? What are the cab charges?

Please suggest good hotel in Shimla with nice views of valley with the budget of 1400 to 1800 per day.

Thanks much for your help.

Staying in Shimla for all the days would be more practical or your would be spending more on cabs. Just a suggestion! HPTDC runs tours to Kufri and Naldehra starting from Shimla.

Regarding discounts, do not book online as they do not offer the discounts on their site. Better to check with the hotels directly or at their Shimla Office (Tel. 0177-2652561/2658302 Email: shimla@hptdc.in)

Nice hotel and service. Highly recommended. But you will have to walk a little to reach the hotel. No worries! Everyone walks in Shimla.
