night bus, delhi -> manali

Hi
Hope you can help me, and that i'm not repeating a recent thread.
I read on an old post that there is an a/c night-bus from paharganj to manali.
is this still the case?
are there any other buses that go elsewhere in himachal pradesh (eg mcleod ganj/dalhousie etc)?
where do these go from, and when?
where is the best place to book, and where should we avoid?

thanks in advance for your help

See this website...

Please visit http://hrtc.nic.in

This is the official site of Himachal's state owned bus service.

Refer to time table section for bus details between different routes.

Cheers!!

Himachal Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) also runs regular night buses from Delhi to Manali and Dharamshala/McLeodganj.
Deluxe and Volvo Semi Sleeper.

Check them -
CHANDERLOK BUILDING ,
36, JANPATH, NEW DELHI-110001.

If you're going to go with Himachal Tourism, which I would also recommend, their office is at the back of Chanderlok buildings on Janpath.

When you enter the building keep walking until you reach the last office on the right hand side. You will have to pass some other offices which look as if they are the official office but are not. It only happens in India!

The bus departs from the road at the back of the building at the specified time.
What a long strange trip it's been!

Thumbs up thanks

many thanks for all the advice everyone.
Alan, is it easy enough to get to the offices from paharganj? How far in advance will i have to book?
I have a feeling I'm being hopelessly optimistic (my experience with travel in india is limited, but other asian countries have taught me that you should never make plans you can't afford to drastically change ), but I was hoping to book in the morning for an evening bus on the same day (2nd may). How feasable do you reckon this is?

One more question, how much will it cost for a 'slightly more comfortable than the cheapest option' bus?

cheers

It's only about 5-10 minutes from Paharganj providing you don't get a driver who wants to take you shopping Should cost about 30-40 rupees.

It's down Janpath on the left hand side going from Connaught Place.

I really couldn't say whether you would find the bus is full or not on the day, but if it is there are other private or state bus options, maybe from the other travel companies in Chanderlock Building.

The Himachal Tourism buses are pretty comfortable with AC, but you could probably get a basic state bus for half the price. I think the state buses start from ISBT (Interstate Bus Terminal) but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me on this.

The ISBT at Kashmiri Gate is quite far from Paharganj !! This is where the HRTC buses start from.

The HPTDC office at Chanderlok building is very close to CP .

HRTC is the State Government's road transport division, while HPTDC is the State Govt.'s tourism department.
