Need accomodation recommendations for Manali in December for newly weds (5 days)
Hi All,
My wife and I are planning to visit Manali in December (from 15th to 20th Dec) and we are still in the planning stage so we are a little flexible on the dates (by +/- 2 days). I have done some research on the sticky topic and some forum posts, but I still needed some recommendation for accommodation for us newly weds. 1) The period (from 15th to 20th Dec) is considered off-season or not? 2) I have shortlisted four accommodation sites and I need recommendation on which ones are quieter and fulfilling for soul searching together for a couple? a) The Castle (Naggar) b) Hadimba cottages (Manali) c) Apple Country Resort (Kullu http://www.applecountryresorts.com) 3) Some of the members here have suggested that one should go there and do some bargaining on the price there for off season accomodation. Is there a way to talk to them over the phone and haggle? I really would like my trip to be as planned as possible and I don't want to risk sleeping in a cheap place that secretly records couples having intimate moments at night. (rumored, sorry I don't mean to offend anyone)4) I checked out the wikipedia page on Rohtang Pass and I'd love to visit that place! It looked breathtaking in the pictures from google. Will it be open during mid-December? Also, which other places of natural beauty would you recommend? I am not religious and I'd rather check out places of scenic natural beauty than the temples (a lot of them are on the sightseeing list for some reason!). However, we wouldn't mind visiting a couple temples to learn their local history either! 5) After spending some secluded time with each other for a few nights, we would like to go for some outdoor activity? Which ones would you recommend? We would love to go white-water rafting, but will it be available in December? We'd love to go skiing too. Is it possible to combine these activities in one day? When we went to Gatlinburg in Tennesse, we were able to combine two activities together in a day, is it possible to do that in Manali or are the activities too spread out? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I want this to be a perfect India trip Thank you! Amit |

1) It will be off season.
2) a & b are government accomodations. All accomodations are good. Nagar Castle is around 25 Kms from Manali. 3) There are fixed off season discounts in Govt. Hotel. Apple Country might also have fixed discounts. No need to worry. 4) More chance of Rohtang being closed during the period. You can try Solang, Kothi etc. which are full of Natural Beauty. 5) It will be off season for white water rafting. There will be too little water in river Beas. White water rafting is done at Pirdi to Jhiri (16 Kms). Rafting and skiing can be combined if you start very early and rush things. Better to do these separately. However there will not be much scope of Skiing as the skiing slope at Solang does not normally receive snow during the period. You may be able to enjoy snow at Kothi or higher reaches towards rohtang. |
